The 14 best Fortnite pickaxes

Hundreds of Pickaxes have been added to Fortnite over time, so picking the best ones is all but easy.

Fortnite offers plenty of opportunities for players who love to customize their own characters and tools. The game features more than 800 Pickaxes alone, making it tough to choose just one.

In fact, there’s no way to pick a universal list of best Pickaxes in Fortnite. With so many options, it’s simply not possible. However, we’ve played our fair share of the game and picked 14 Pickaxes that stand out the most to us.

Leviathan Axe

The Leviathan Axe is a Pickaxe inspired by Kratos from the God of War series. Similarly to the original’s counterpart, it features a leather-stripped handle and an axe head with runes carved all over it, with some of the finest attention to detail we’ve seen on weapons of its kind.

The Leviathan Axe was released in December 2020 as a part of the Oathbreaker set, which also included Kratos’ shield, the head of Mimir, and the skin of the Greek god himself. Unfortunately, it rarely goes back to the Item Shop, and when it does, it’s worth 1,000 V-Bucks, or 2,000 with the entire bundle.

The Axe of Champions

We know this one is hard to obtain, but if we’re talking about the best Pickaxes in the game, we couldn’t have done so without mentioning it. To get the Axe of Champions, you had to win the Fortnite Champion Series, which is a feat only a handful of players have actually achieved.

This Pickaxe is almost fully golden, with the Fortnite logo engraved at its head. Sadly, it’s not available in the shop at all, and likely never will be.

AC/DC

Sometimes, all you want to do is smash things with a bit of Rock’n’Roll in the background, and in Fortnite, you can do just that with the AC/DC Pickaxe. Its name is a reference to the iconic rock band that began their journey in the 1970s. This Pickaxe itself was released in December 2017, and since then, Fortnite has seen numerous other music-inspired cooperations, including one with Metallica.

The AC/DC skin features two rods electrifying each other, which is a nod to the band’s first internationally released album called High Voltage, which came out in 1976. The Pickaxe itself was a reward in season two’s battle pass, and it doesn’t look like it will return to the Item Shop anytime soon.

Adamantium Claws

As we said, there are a bunch of crossovers in the world of Fortnite, and numerous of them are with Marvel or DC. Thanks to these, we have received dozens of comic book-inspired Pickaxes, including multiple versions of Adamantium Claws.

These were obviously (mostly) inspired by none other than Wolverine, a character who’s been portrayed by Hugh Jackman for more than 20 years now in cinemas. They look sharp and shiny, and come alongside black gloves which are used by the superhero in the comics.

Different versions of the Claws randomly go into the Item Shop. The last time it happened was in September 2024, when X-23’s Adamantium Claws were available for 800 V-Bucks.

Cap’s Shield

Another Marvel-inspired Pickaxe in Fortnite worth attention is Cap’s Shield. Like Adamantium Claws, it strays away from the typical Pickaxe look, which may be tough to get used to at first. However, if you’re a comic book fan, you’ll surely appreciate the thin lines between the shield’s circles and the polished star in the middle of it, which make it look as if it was taken straight from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Cap’s Shield was launched in February 2023. It’s a part of two different sets–Captain America and the BriteStar Bundle and Captain America – Sam Wilson (MCU) Outfit. The former costs 2,600 V-Bucks, while the latter is available for 2,000 V-Bucks. Sam Wilson’s set often goes back into the Item Shop and likely will return again at the beginning of 2025 for the release of Captain America’s new movie, Brave New World.

Batman Pickaxe

Continuing the superhero trend, the Batman Pickaxe features the renowned hero’s logo engraved on its head and scythes shaped like bat wings, making it arguably one of the prettiest in Fortnite.

The Batman Pickaxe tends to go live in Fortnite every year, and it is a part of the Batman Caped Crusader Pack. The last time it was seen, it was obtainable for $15.99.

Golden Scythe

The Chapter 2 REMIX, which went live in November 2024, introduced many things to Fortnite, including a stunning Golden Scythe. As the name suggests, it’s almost fully golden, with a black leather strip around its handle.

It’s available as a reward in the Golden Scythe Quest. To claim it, players need to earn 140,000 experience, after which they’ll be able to get the Midas-inspired Golden Scythe Pickaxe.

Hammerhead Morty

We couldn’t dive into the world of Fortnite crossovers and not mention the Rick and Morty cooperation from 2021. There were plenty of challenges to complete, and a pivotal part of the whole crossover was earning and spending Battle Stars. Seven of them could have claimed you the Hammerhead Morty, which hasn’t been in the Item Shop ever since.

The Pickaxe is as Rick and Morty-ish as it could have been. It features a blue-and-yellow handle reminiscent of Morty’s outfit in the show. It also has hands coming out of it by the top. The head looks like a comic book hammer, but it’s given eyes and mouth, completing the reinterpretation of the poor Morty. Fans of the show will also recognize Hammerhead Morty, actually a character from season five, who Rick used to smash aliens (and as a “human” shield).

Golden Daggers

We’ve covered a fair amount of huge Pickaxes; now let’s focus on some of the smaller ones. The Golden Daggers item, as the name suggests, features entirely golden blades, with the handles painted black. It’s a simple yet pretty combination.

The Golden Touch Set originally went live in March 2021, but it’s still regularly seen in the Item Shop. It usually costs $11.99, and we doubt the price will change anytime soon.

The Tragic Blade

Are you looking for something sharp, stylish, and original? If so, take a look at the Tragic Blade. It features a small, black handle and thin, crystal blue blade, making it a perfect choice for anyone looking for minimalistic Pickaxes.

The Tragic Blade is a part of the Kid LAROI Bundle, which initially launched in January 2023. It was seen a few times in the Item Shop since then, with the bundle costing 2,400 V-Bucks.

Resonator

A few Pickaxes in Fortnite are reskins, and that’s the case with Resonator, which is essentially a recolored version of Onslaught. However, while that one features the black and orange combination, Resonator’s green, black and silver combo immediately grabbed our attention.

Unfortunately, the Eon Set, which includes the Resonator, hasn’t been in the Item Shop for years, so if you own it, you may call yourself lucky.

Lucky

Speaking of luck, many of the best Pickaxes in Fortnite no longer return to the Item Shop. That’s not the case with Lucky, though, which quite regularly makes it to the store, where it is purchasable for only 500 V-Bucks.

Lucky features a simple design with a sprinkle of oddity. It looks like a regular Pickaxe, but its head has a smiley face painted on it. And who knows, maybe it does bring players luck in-game? Only one way to find out.

Bananaxe

Everyone who has ever played Fortnite knows who Peely is. The banana-like character has become one of the game’s icons, so it’s only fair we also include a Banana-like Pickaxe. With that in mind, familiarize yourself with the Bananaxe. As you could have guessed, the fruit itself makes the Pickaxe’s head, while the handle itself is a simple black staff.

Bananaxe is a part of Banana Royale Set, which goes live in the Item Shop every now and then. When it does, it costs 950 V-Bucks.

Daryl’s Knives

For the past 15 years, The Walking Dead franchise has been a mainstay of the entertainment world, and it even made it into Fortnite on a few occasions. As a result, we got renowned characters and their weapons, including Daryl and his Knives, which were transformed into a Pickaxe.

Both Daryl Dixon and Survivors in Arms sets often return to the Item Shop, where they can be bought for 1,800 or 2,500 V-Bucks, respectively.
