Red Bull has sponsored one of the most popular streamers in the world and revealed an upcoming Fortnite: Battle Royale tournament.
Twitch star Tyler “Ninja” Blevins is the newest gamer to join the Red Bull team, the energy drink company announced earlier today via Twitter. With the announcement, Ninja becomes the fifth Red Bull esports athlete, joining the likes of TSM Super Smash Bros Melee player William “Leffen” Hjelte.
In addition to the sponsorship announcement, Red Bull released information about a Fortnite: Battle Royale tournament it will be hosting next month in Ninja’s hometown.
Red Bull Rise Till Dawn will begin on July 21 at 8:21pm CT, the time the sun sets in Chicago. On the 99th floor of the Willis Tower, the competing duos will battle each other throughout the night until the sun rises at 5:35am CT. The tournament will feature a prize pool of nearly $5,000, and it’ll include a point system.
Teams will earn points based on their end-of-game placement and amount of eliminations, but they’ll receive bonus points if they’re able to take out Ninja and his teammate. Teams that earn the Victory Royale will get 10 points, and eliminating Ninja’s team will garner the same amount. The team with the most points by sunrise will be crowned the champions.
With a format that not only rewards victories but also eliminations, many competitive Fortnite fans will surely be interested in the result. Since Fortnite’s popularity explosion, esports-minded players have been looking for a solution to make competitive events as exciting as possible.
Players over the age of 18 can register for the competition now on Smash.gg’s website.
