As part of LEGO Fortnite’s big Star Wars update, many Empire Bunkers have spawned where caves used to be. As you approach them, text reading “Requires Code Clearance” flashes, indicating you must find something to open them.
Try as you might, you won’t be able to open them when you first come across the island, even if you kill the Stormtroopers guarding it. While it can be a bit confusing at the start, these doors actually have two pretty simple methods of opening.
How to enter the ‘Requires Code Clearance’ door in LEGO Fortnite
After going through the cave to spawn you on the faraway Star Wars island, you are given a pair of macrobinoculars from the character Captain Bravara. You can use them to scout out two different bases, with a lot of red ones being the Imperial Strongholds and a solitary blue one being a rebel base. You have to head to the rebel base first to begin your quest.
If you go off the beaten path in LEGO Fortnite and head to one of these Imperial Strongholds, you’ll find a weird code message asking you for “Code Clearance.” The main way you open these doors is by upgrading the previously mentioned blue Rebel Base you come across on the map. After reaching level six, you are tasked with taking on one of these bunkers, and the doors open automatically, removing the need for the message.
Alternatively, if you haven’t got far enough and somehow have a Lightsaber, you can use them to break open the doors. Lightsabers are the only weapons with the power to open these locked doors, so always have one in your inventory in case you come across a locked one. The Lightsaber is only useful in two scenarios, though.
If you are playing in creative mode, you can skip the need to do all the missions by spawning in a Lightsaber. Granted, doing so makes the Imperial Strongholds pretty redundant. These Bunkers act as small raids with hoards of enemies deep inside them. You need to defeat all the enemies in each area until you reach the end, where a chest with various goodies awaits you. This is the only way to unlock different colored Lightsabers and get some rare Star Wars-themed craftable items to help make the most of the stuff in-game.
Alternatively, if you are playing with friends and haven’t taken part in upgrading the Rebel Base, you’ll need to borrow a Lightsaber from your neighbor to destroy your way in. As mentioned before, these Stronghold Bunkers are stacked with tons of Stormtrooper enemies, so gearing yourself up with high-tier loot is valuable to take them on.
When I first encountered one, I had Epic swords, shields, and many food and healing items to keep myself alive from the onslaught. There are three areas: defeating every enemy is the only way to progress. This is tricky, as some of the Stormtroopers are hiding around the large cave on purpose, so you could easily pass one down to the main structures and not even notice.
