Who would’ve thought that it would take a surprise limited time mode for Epic to finally release a new map?
Well, the Fortnite Downtown Drop limited time event is happening and it does include a new map for players to explore. This mode isn’t about killing your opponents, though. Its focus is on collecting coins while sporting your official Jordan gear.
The Michael Jordan and Fortnite crossover event will only be around for a short period of time, but it does contain two challenges right now that players can take on. They are the “change color of 1,000 tiles” and “dance or emote between two food trucks” challenges. These tasks shouldn’t be ignored since they don’t give the usual experience or battle stars.
Instead, these two challenges grant some unique sprays and other cosmetic items that you won’t find anywhere else. The reward for completing the 1,000 tiles challenge is a cosmetic skin for your skateboard so you can stand out from the crowd. But how do you actually change the color of tiles?
First, you’ll need to drop into the Downtown Drop limited time mode, which might be harder than it should be since some players aren’t able to get into it right now. The purpose of this mode is to see who’s collected the most coins and become the official Fortnite G.O.A.T. To do so, players will automatically grind around the city streets.
As you grind about, the color of the squares under your feet will change to a new color. Your opponents will also change the color of the squares and you touching their squares can change it further. There seems to be no real point to this other than this change since it has no effect on who actually wins.
So, all you need to do is make sure to grind over and change the color of 1,000 tiles. That may sound like a lot, but you can actually get through a ton in each match. We averaged more than 200 tiles per match and that’s including some issues here and there, so you should be able to get this challenge done in four or five matches. Completing it will get you a new skateboard back bling.
