Game developer Epic Games announced today that the glider redeploy functionality is being itemized. The item will be called Glider and can be obtained through traditional loot sources, like floors and chests.

The Glider will contain charges per deploy usage, similar to balloons and grapplers, and will disappear once the charge number hits zero. On the bright side, launch pads, rifts-to-go, and respawns in Limited Time Modes won’t affect the number of charges for the Glider item.

“The goal with the item is to provide mobility and utility, but in a form that can be balanced and iterated upon,” Epic Games said in an blog post today. “By implementing glider redeploy as an item we can iterate on multiple different levels (i.e. redeploy height, movement speed, drop chance, charge count), including inventory slot tension.”

When the redeploy mechanic was initially introduced late last year, the Fortnite community was split between wanting to remove it and wanting to keep it in the game. Eventually, Epic Games removed it from default modes and isolated it to LTMs. Now, the introduction of the Glider will provide players with the opportunity to use the redeploy mechanic in a more balanced way.
