Epic Games revealed the in-game Events system earlier today, saying that the first version of open, online competition will be available in the 6.1 update. Anyone interested in competing, though, must opt-in for crossplay in order to participate in these events.

This in-game tournament system was leaked this weekend. “Each tournament has a series of scheduled dates and times during which the competition will be run,” Epic said. “Each of these scheduled sessions is a completely clean slate—all players will begin with the same score and compete over several hours of intense competition to earn as many points as possible. Players can earn points by either achieving high placements or eliminating multiple opponents.”

Players will battle against opponents who have a similar amount of points in the standings for that specific event. There will be a target score for players to work toward, and anyone who successfully reaches that mark will earn a shiny pin.

Here’s the schedule and dates for the in-game events that have been revealed so far by Epic.

  • Alpha Tournament (Solo): Oct. 16 to 21
  • Beta Tournament (Duo): Oct. 23 to 25
  • Friday Night Fortnite (Squad): Oct. 19 to Nov. 30
  • Salty Springs Cup (Solo): Oct. 27 to 31
  • Tomato Temple Cup (Duo): Oct. 28 to Nov. 1

Epic also plans to “develop the tournaments feature to allow for events to occur across multiple rounds, requiring players to have earned a pin to qualify for each subsequent round.” And Epic said that later this year, players will be able to qualify for the 2019 Fortnite World Cup through a Showdown Royale tournament that’s a part of the in-game Events system.

This new system will hopefully get more players and fans excited about Fortnite esports.
