Vocations are the foundation of Dragon Dogma 2’s combat system, letting you choose between a handful of skill and weapon specialties to customize how you fight. The Warfarer Vocation breaks the conventional way the game’s classes work, though you will need to unlock it first.
The Warfarer Vocation is arguably the most powerful class for your Arisen in Dragon’s Dogma 2, giving you access to nearly every weapon and skill for all other Vocations. That kind of power is not available early on, however, as you can’t access it until way later in your journey. So, while you focus on completing the main story, here is how you can progress to eventually unlock the Warfarer Vocation.
Where to unlock the Warfarer Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2
You can unlock the Warfarer Vocation by speaking with Lamond and completing The Sotted Sage quest he is involved in. This is all done at the Hot Springs located to the south of the Volcanic Island Camp, specifically the Geyser Hamlet. If you’ve unlocked the Magick Archer Vocation, you may have visited the Hot Springs once before.
When you arrive and speak to Lamond, he asks you to get him Newt Liquor. It’s a rare item, but there are several locations where you can track it down. However, one of the best methods is to craft this item yourself.
You can create it by combining Fruit Wine and a Saurian Tail. You can find Saurian close to the coast throughout Vernworth, and to increase your chances of this item dropping, attempt to cut the creature’s tail off. Fruit Wine is much more difficult. I got lucky and found it by opening treasure chests my Pawns pointed out as we roamed the world.
I was able to craft two Newt Liquors this way. However, you need three Newt Liquors for Lamond to complete this quest. You can also visit Earland, who resides in Bakbattahl, to purchase another Newt Liquor. You can find him between the road to the Flamebearer Palace and the ox cart.
Once you have all three Newt Liquours, return to Lamond at the Hot Springs and offer him those items. He’ll thank you for bringing all three, and you should unlock the Warfarer Vocation, which you can use throughout the rest of your Dragon’s Dogma 2 campaign by changing your Vocation.
What does the Warfarer Vocation do in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
The Warfarer Vocation is one of the strongest classes in Dragon’s Dogma 2 because you can use it to access multiple weapons and skills from each other Vocation in the game. It is only available to use for Arisen—meaning you can’t have a Pawn that uses it.
If you equip the Warfarer Vocation, you will have access to every weapon in the game in the same class, along with offensive, defensive, and healing magic. According to Capcom’s description of the Vocation, “By using diverse weapons, the Warfarer can respond to any situation and create combos that cross vocational boundaries.”
There is a downside, however. While the Warfarer has access to so many weapons and skills, it has lower base stats across the board to compensate. This means you need to constantly swap your approach to situations using your versatility to compensate for the lower peaks in comparison to specialized Vocations users.
