Immortals is on the lookout for a Dota 2 team

One of North America’s premier esports organizations is looking to establish itself in Dota 2.

Immortals CEO Noah Whinston shared his thoughts on the game and its overall tournament landscape in a video released on Sept. 7. Whinston says that the added structure of Dota 2’s upcoming tournament season has provided the game with enough stability for the Immortals brand to begin the hunt for a Dota 2 roster. The 22-year-old CEO has previously shared this sentiment in an interview with Dot Esports, published on July 13.

The previous model utilized by Valve saw the tournament year structured around three events: The International and two separate $3 million Valve Majors—which weren’t scheduled at the start of each new tournament season. For the 2017 to 2018 season, however, Valve has already announced the dates and locations for the 22 events that will make up the competition.

Although there are few established free agents remaining in the western scene, Whinston says that his top priority will be to make the organization’s Dota 2 roster a long-term investment firmly entrenched in the game’s community. As a means to provide this staying power, the organization will attempt to establish a bridge between its players and the community in various different ways, like Q&A’s with the players and raffles, among other things.

Immortals has, in its brief existence, quickly established itself as one of North America’s most successful esports organizations. On July 30, the Immortals Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team reached the PGL Kraków Major grand finals, while its League of Legends squad challenged rivals TSM in the North American League Championship finals on Aug. 7.
