How did the Whoopi Goldberg vs. Blizzard feud start?

The feud between Goldberg and Blizzard started after the actress bought Diablo 4 only to realize it wasn’t playable on Mac. She soon demanded a refund.

In an Instagram post that’s since been deleted, Goldberg declared she was a long-time fan of the Diablo franchise and wanted to play the 2023 sequel—but wasn’t properly informed it didn’t actually launch on Mac. As documented by Entertainment Weekly, she wanted her money back from Blizzard; a demand they eventually bowed to.

In the past, Diablo offered CDs with the PC (Windows) and Mac versions on them, so players only needed to buy one copy of the game rather than purchasing either a PC or Mac version. And, as Diablo, Diablo 2, and Diablo 3 were on Mac, you’d have expected Diablo 4 to be available too. This ended up not being the case, and as some Diablo players pointed out, if they “were a Mac gamer, then [they] would be pissed too.”

Whoopi Goldberg and Blizzard bury Diablo 4 hatchet

The feud ended smoothly after Diablo’s big boss Rod Fergusson and two cosplayers dressed as Lilith and Inarius appeared at “A Night With Whoopi” on July 20, 2024, where Golberg was presented with a replica of the Key to Hell as an apology.

While this feud between Goldberg and Blizzard has been laid to rest, Diablo 4 likely won’t be available natively on Mac soon, despite the star’s publicised battle. So, if you’re a Mac user like Whoopi Goldberg, you may have to run it through Boot Camp or play on cloud gaming software like NVIDIA GeForce Now. I have a Mac and I’d recommend GeForce Now over Boot Camp, mainly because it simply runs better and is way easier.
