How to solve the Secret of the Spring riddle in Diablo 4

One of the less complicated puzzles in the game, thankfully.

Diablo 4 players are in grind mode, completing as many quests as they can to level up and progress. But while most quests are relatively straightforward, some are more difficult. The Secret of the Spring quest is a tricky one, and that’s because it asks players to solve a riddle.

This quest starts when players find a discarded note that is located near a cabin northeast of Kyovashad, and while some have said the note is class-specific, it reads otherwise. Here’s all the information you need to know about how to solve The Secret of the Spring riddle in Diablo 4.

Where to start the Secret of the Spring quest in Diablo 4

First, you’ll need to find the discarded note to start. To do that, take the eastern gate out of Kyovashad and head north through the Frigid Expanse until you find a ledge next to an Altar of Lilith. Grapple up to find yourself on Kylsik Plateau.

This area has a dungeon called the Forsaken Quarry. Turn left at the entrance of the dungeon to find a ladder that will lead you up to a wooden platform on the cliffside. You’ll find the discarded note on it. It’s where the player arrow icon is on the map pictured below.

Secret of the Spring riddle solution in Diablo 4, explained

The discarded note will have a riddle that says: “Beacon of warmth in winter’s embrace, patience rewarded by nature’s own grace.” Like most riddles, the answer is cleverly hidden within it, but it’s not so simple thanks to how the game sets up emotes. The note will also point towards a hot spring, so head back down the ladder and make your way northeast to find it.

Once you’re there, you’ll need to solve the riddle by using the Wait emote. It’s not one of the default Diablo emotes, so you’ll need to open your emote wheel and add it to an empty slot. This can be done by pressing E on a keyboard or the Up button on a controller and then pressing the Customize button at the bottom. This will bring up the menu with all your owned emotes, and you can add the Wait one to an open slot.

Stand by the spring and use the Wait emote by pressing E on a keyboard or Up on a controller again, then clicking Wait. If you’ve done it right, you should see a Buried Chest. Loot it to complete the quest. You’ll receive some experience, gear, and gold for your efforts.

This isn’t the last time you’ll encounter a situation where you need to use an emote to complete or progress a quest. When in doubt, don’t be afraid to try an emote, as it might just be the secret to success. Another quest like this one is the “In Desperate Times” quest, which tasks players to “ask the Watcher for help,” and the puzzle has a similar solution.
