It's the most important reagent you'll need while leveling.

Crushed Beast Bones in Diablo 4 are an incredibly useful item dropped by large beasts, Werecreatures, and cellar chests. You should aim to collect them early in your leveling journey because they’re an important crafting material needed to upgrade your Healing Potion.

Healing Potions will serve as your primary source of health, especially in combat. I found myself using them a lot, so upgrading from the Minor Healing Potion to the Light Healing Potion was high on my to-do list. You’ll need five Crushed Beast Bones to make that upgrade, but finding them can be more difficult than it sounds.

Thankfully, we’ve scouted out the best ways to find and farm the much-needed Crushed Beast Bones in Diablo 4.

Where to farm Crushed Beast Bones in Diablo 4

The best farming method for Crushed Beast Bones in Diablo 4 is to kill Gaspar Stillbian and/or Blind Odywn.

Where to find Gaspar Stillbian and how to beat him in Diablo 4

This elite enemy spawns in Scosglen, to the east of the Under The Fat Goose Inn Waypoint, as seen in the screenshot below.

Once you’re at Gaspar’s location, some exploding enemies will spawn before the enemy’s den, so be prepared to avoid them. Fighting Gaspar has the chance to be bugged; when I went to fight them, they simply stood there and let me completely whittle their health away without so much as moving an inch. But most of the time, Gaspar will fight back.

Nevertheless, it’s an easy fight overall and once you have killed Gaspar, they will drop five Crushed Beast Bones guaranteed, every time. You can repeat this farming method as many times as you want. Gaspar spawns back in around every three to five minutes, so all you have to do is wait for that amount of time, then you can kill them again.

Where to find Blind Odwyn and how to beat him in Diablo 4

Blind Odwyn is another elite boss that can be found in Scosglen, in the southwest corner of the Blood Vale, in the eastern part of the region. The main quest will eventually take you to the Blood Vale, but you can go back there easiest by navigating there from the Tirmair waypoint.

While exploring the southwest portion of the Blood Vale, Blind Odwyn will appear and attack you. Sometimes, he may not appear, as he did with me at first. But running around and wiping out other enemies sometimes forces him to spawn. If he doesn’t, you may have to log out and log back in, then leave and come back to the area. He should spawn every three to five minutes.

More Diablo 4 Crushed Beast Bones locations: Scosglen, Dry Steppes, Cellars

If you don’t feel ready to fight Gaspar, you can find Crushed Beast Bones in areas like Scosglen or the Dry Steppes after defeating various werebeasts, spiders, bears, and other large monsters. Even while running around trying to find Blind Odwyn, I slayed lots of monsters that dropped them in the Blood Vale.

Simply kill as many of these beasts as you can find, and by the time you’re done with your massacre, you should have enough of the bones to upgrade your healing potion at the Alchemist’s shop.

In the video above, you can see some examples of beast hunting in Scosglen. When you find one group of these animals, there should be plenty more on the nearby roads and parts of the map.

If beast hunting isn’t for you, Crushed Beast Bones can also be found in chests after clearing cellars like the Frosty Mine in Sarkova Pass, the Flooded Mine in the Western Tunnels southeast of Dobrev Taiga (east of Margrave), and the Disturbed Grave south of Kyovashad.

We’ve marked the locations of the Frosty Mine, Disturbed Grave, and Flooded Mine on the maps below.

Simply open the chest after clearing any of these cellars and you’ll have a chance of finding the valuable items. Once you’ve done that, leave the cellar and wait outside for the event to respawn. You can repeat this process for the chance of another drop as many times as you like.

What are Crushed Beast Bones used for in Diablo 4?

Crushed Beast Bones are a crafting material in Diablo 4. Used to craft potions and elixirs, they’re among the main reagents that Alchemists of the Sanctuary will be asking for, especially if you’re interested in upgrading your Healing Potions.

Diablo 4’s Healing Potions come in a variety of strengths, beginning with the Weak Healing Potion from the start of the game and followed by the Tiny Healing Potion at level 10, the Minor Healing Potion at level 20, and so on. Once you hit level 30, you can upgrade your Minor Healing Potion to the Light Healing Potion, which replenishes 141 health instantly and 35 percent of your maximum health over the next three seconds.

Diablo 4 Light Healing Potion recipe

To craft the Light Healing Potion, you’ll need the following reagents:

  • 20 Gallowvine
  • 10 Biteberry
  • Five Crushed Beast Bones
  • 470 gold

Other uses

Most of you reading this guide will be looking to upgrade your Healing Potion using Crushed Beast Bones, but they do have more than one use. Other Alchemy recipes using the item include:

  • Song of the Mountain
  • Chorus of War
  • Storm of the Wilds
  • Assault Elixrs

When it comes to Crushed Beast bones, my biggest piece of advice for new Diablo players is to avoid spending your hard-earned bones all at once. Instead, ration them accordingly, depending on your game plan.

If you’re still getting used to Alchemists and potions, you may have also recently met the Blacksmith. If that’s the case, check out our guide on when to sell or salvage in Diablo 4.
