Although you can only carry so many, you’ll find yourself wanting, if not desperately needing, Murmuring Obols to help you get your Legendary items. So here’s everything you need to know about how to get and use Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4.
How to use Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4
Murmuring Obols are used at one specific shop—the Curiosities Vendor. This merchant has shops in several locations, such as Kyovashad and Yelesna.
Although they may not sell all that much, they’ll either be your favorite or most hated vendor because the Curiosities Vendor sells two essential types of items:
- Gear tokens—For 25 to 75 Obols, you can get a piece of equipment. Sometimes you’re given garbage. At other times, you can get rare gear or Legendary items with unique aspects. Unfortunately, this is a gacha or RNG-based system, so you may find yourself funneling your Obols into the vendor to get the gear and aspect you need.
- Whispering Keys—These are the keys you need to open the Silent Chests scattered across The Sanctuary. Without them, you won’t be able to open the chests, so keeping a few on hand is a good idea.
If you want to earn Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4 but do not know how to get this currency, this is everything you need to know.
How to get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4
As Murmuring Obols is an essential currency in Diablo 4, there are, thankfully, several ways you can earn them, including:
- World Events
- Area and Zone Events
- Cursed Object Events in Dungeons and Cellars
Local events are random instances that pop up on the map and encourage players to complete specific objectives. Players are often tasked with taking down one or more particular enemies. Below are just some of the tasks that players can complete to earn Murmuring Obols:
- Liberation – Free Captives.
- Caravan under Siege – Defend a traveling caravan from demons.
- Cull the Wicked – Fight off enemies, including a mini-boss.
- Ancient Siphon – Clear three pillars of demons, then destroy the pillars.
Local events reward players with gear, experience, and gold, the more traditional and practical currency in Diablo 4. Area and Zone Events, like Cull the Wicked or The Gathering Legion, require you to wipe out enemies in an entire area or town. They’re often rife with danger and take time, but the rewards are worth it.

After acquiring a mass of Murmuring Obols, fast-travel to your nearest town, if you’ve unlocked the waypoints, that is, and find the Curiosities Vendors.
At this merchant stand, players can purchase one-of-a-kind items with Murmuring Obols, and as of writing this, this is the only shop that accepts Murmuring Obols as a currency.
How to farm for Murmuring Obols
Besides just soloing the events, one of the best ways to farm for Murmuring Obols is to get a group together to complete the more significant events, whether with your friends or with random people in the area—which is what I did. Doing this increases your odds of completing the event masteries and your chances of obtaining Obols.
