Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep brought back a lot of old favorite weapons with refreshed perks, and one of the more intriguing weapons to make that list is the rapid-fire Randy’s Throwing Knife.

What used to be a ritual scout rifle that required Guardians to brave the gauntlet of the competitive PvP playlist is now just a regular playlist drop in the Crucible. Yet despite its much easier acquisition path, Randy’s Throwing Knife is arguably better than ever.

Here are our recommendations for the best perks and some theory-crafted god rolls for the refurbished Randy’s Throwing Knife in Destiny 2.

What is the Randy’s Throwing Knife god roll in Destiny 2?

Perk TwoKinetic Tremors

Randy’s Throwing Knife is built as a PvP weapon, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any good PvE god rolls. I personally use a Rapid Hit and Kinetic Tremors roll, which does a brilliant job at dealing with red bar enemies even in high-level content like GM Nightfalls.

Other options include Pugilist for melee ability recharge and Swashbuckler for damage after landing a melee kill, but then you’re using a scout rifle up close which is definitely not what it is meant for.

MagazineRicochet Rounds or High-Caliber Rounds
Perk OneZen Moment or Rapid Hit
Perk TwoKill Clip or Cascade Point

As Randy’s is a PvP weapon, it doesn’t come as a surprise to find some pretty potent Crucible rolls on this scout rifle. First and foremost is the Rapid Hit and Kill Clip combo, which in the right hands can make this one of the best primaries in Destiny 2 and is easily the PvP god roll for Randy’s Throwing Knife.

Landing successive precision shots grants Randy’s super-fast reload speed, after which Kill Clip can be proc’d, giving the scout a damage boost for a short time. With enough targets, you’ll be able to chain together periods of Kill Clip and can two-tap guardians at a massive range.

Zen Moment is also available for that stability and accuracy boost while firing, and we can’t overlook Cascade Point for the fire-rate boost after damaging an enemy with another weapon. Any combination of the four perks will serve you well in PvP.

How to get Randy’s Throwing Knife in Destiny 2

You can acquire Randy’s Throwing Knife by playing Crucible (PvP) matches and redeeming Crucible Engrams from Lord Shaxx in The Tower. Once you have received a Randy’s Throwing Knife, you can spend Crucible Engrams to grab a randomly rolled copy of the scout rifle without needing to rely on luck by opening the engram.

For those who managed to unlock the weapon back in the early days of Destiny 2, you can pull a Randy’s Throwing Knife from collections, but given that it is a sunset weapon and the perk combinations on the new Randy’s are that much better, it would be a waste of time and resources. You’re better off hitting the Crucible and grabbing a new one for yourself!
