With the official release of Lightfall, Quicksilver Storm can finally take the place it was meant to occupy, and it brings some fitting synergy with the Strand subclasses. This is evidenced by the green projectiles it shoots in the trailer and by the confirmed effect of its catalyst.
While the release of Strand didn’t make Quicksilver Storm fire Strand-aligned projectiles, its catalyst will still let players use the Neomuni weapon as a synergy maker for Strand builds—if you can get its catalyst, that is. Here’s what it does and how you can obtain it.
What does the Quicksilver Storm catalyst do in Destiny 2?
The Quicksilver Storm catalyst reinforces the weapon’s connection with the new Strand element that debuted alongside Lightfall. The catalyst gives it more room to combine with the new subclass—even if you’re not running Strand.
The Quicksilver Storm catalyst creates Strand-based Tangles when getting a kill using the weapon’s built-in grenade launcher firing mode. Players can grab these Tangles and throw them at enemies even if they’re not running Strand subclasses, giving players some extra functionality from this Exotic. If you’re using Strand, though, you can dip into the class’ synergies with Tangles to get even more benefit out of Quicksilver Storm’s catalyst.
How to get the Quicksilver Storm catalyst in Destiny 2: Lightfall
The Quicksilver Storm catalyst is available from the Holo-Projector in Strider’s Gate in Neomuna. Head to the landing zone, then look for the Holo-Projector close to the Postmaster and your vault. If the Quicksilver Storm catalyst is available, you’ll see an Exotic icon whenever you’re close to the projector, indicating you can pick it up. This will start the Any Data Port in a Storm quest, which is fairly simple. We recommend picking that up as soon as you can since you can progress through it while you’re doing the Lightfall campaign.
The first step requires you to kill enemies in Neomuna with auto rifles, grenade launchers, or your own grenades. Defeating multiple enemies with grenade launchers quickly will award the best progress, but you can get it done over time if you’re using grenades. After that, visit Banshee-44 in the Tower, then return to Neomuna for the final objective. You’ll have to kill 50 enemies with Quicksilver Storm’s grenade launcher mode, so make sure to use the weapon and its secondary fire while you’re in Neptune. After that, you should unlock the Quicksilver Storm catalyst.
