Starcrossed, the new Destiny 2 Exotic mission, brings the game’s first Exotic Strand bow as a reward. In addition to the final chest, though, guardians can find four secret chests throughout the mission, with more loot up for grabs.
Wish-Keeper is the best drop you can get from the Starcrossed mission, but tracking down the secret chests will net you extra gear drops. You need to be caught up to week four of the seasonal story to start the mission, but that may not be the only restriction.
The triumphs page shows four secret chests in Starcrossed, each with an associated triumph. Normally, Bungie obscures unavailable triumphs (as is the case of the seasonal Starcats). This time, all four appear in the Triumphs tab, though a new one was unlocked each week, culminating in the final one during week seven. Here’s where you can find all available secret chests in Starcrossed. Your Combo/Wombo Detector will mark them on your HUD, so don’t forget to put it in your Ghost if you’re tracking down chests.
All Starcrossed secret chest locations in Destiny 2
After a lot of searching, the Destiny 2 community concluded that the secret chests in Starcrossed are time-gated, so a new chest will unlock every week until all four are available. These chests also gave us an upgrade to Wish-Keeper’s intrinsic, Snareweaver, which you can get on either difficulty. Here are the locations of all hidden chests in the mission.
Starcrossed first secret chest location (Taranis’ Bounty triumph)
- Location: In the intro jumping part
- Reference: Before stepping on the last petal
The first chest is right at the beginning of the mission. Make your way past the hole in a tree and you’ll spot a plant that grows down. From there, look below you to find a ledge leading to the first chest. This is before you face any enemies, though you can see Vex enemies in the distance.
The secret chests respawn every week, so don’t forget to grab them for free drops of Undying weapons.
Starcrossed second secret chest location (Taranis’ Treasures triumph)
- Location: Overland, in the first area of the mission
- Reference: Behind a waterfall on the left side of the zone
Once you get to the Overland (the area with the two rainbows), you’ll notice a new buff spot on the left side of the area. It’s a pool of orange light, and if you’re lost, the beam of orange light floating upward will tell you where it is. Pick up the buff and look behind the waterfall above you to spot an area that will damage you if you don’t have the buff. From there, grab the secret chest to get your goodies.
This is also the area with the Celestial Anomaly for the Constellation: Tower quest, so if you’re running this on Legend, don’t forget to stop by and grab a catalyst for Wish-Keeper.
Starcrossed third secret chest location (Taranis’ Fortune triumph)
- Location: Roost, when the map changes
- Reference: The area with the Dam’s Gift buff
If you searched around before the third chest was available, odds are you may have found this secret entrance—except now you have the tools to unlock the chest.
After clearing out the first combination lock in the Overland, you’ll come upon an area called the Roost, where you’ll get the Dam’s Gift buff. Pick it up, then look to the left before passing through the door to spot a pool of the blue buff. Step on it to upgrade your buff to Crowned by Dragons and go through the spot right in front of you.
Take the path closest to you to encounter a “secret” area with a miniboss called the Obturate Phalanx, with a dragon symbol next to it. Since you have the necessary buffs to damage it now, take out your enemy and a message will pop up, saying “a mechanism unlocks.” A chest will spawn for your trouble, so loot it to pick up the third Snareweaver upgrade.
Conditional Finality will freeze the Phalanx with its first shot, which makes it easy to control the enemy. Disorienting Grenades also help and can be a boon, especially on Legend.
Starcrossed fourth secret chest location (Taranis’ Fortune triumph)
- Location: Roost, just after the jumping puzzle
- Reference: In a small area with a waterfall on the right
The last secret chest is located past the jumping section after entering the transit mechanism. After you make it past the traps and gaps, you’ll emerge in an area with a few enemies. If you have your treasure mods, they should tag a secret chest on your left. It’s best to get this chest once you have the Dam’s Gift buff, which is conveniently located in the next room over. Grab the buff, then backtrack and look for an entrance on the wall. This will lead you to a small passageway with the fourth and final secret chest.
Starcrossed secret chest rewards
Opening up the first secret chest in Starcrossed gave us two enhancement cores and a reissued Season of the Undying weapon. Like any other gear drops, these chests can give you weapons with Deepsight Resonance.
The real treasure was in the following chests, though. The first and second hidden chests gave us upgrades to the Wish-Keeper intrinsic, Snareweaver. The loot is available on both normal and Legend difficulty. The first secret chest reappeared for us the following week, giving us another Undying weapon. Lockouts appear to be shared between the two difficulties, so grabbing the chest in one of them means you can’t double-dip.
