Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has multiple different projects in the works, with the upcoming Death Stranding 2 potentially arriving next year and the still developomg OD and Physint projects, as well as a Death Stranding film adaptation in the works. But the famed developer is only getting started.
In an interview with Variety, it was revealed that Kojima has signed with Hollywood talent agency WME in order to expand his work beyond the world of video games, as well as juggle all of the projects that he has in development. According to Kojima, getting closer to Hollywood was a natural progression for him and his ambitions to create pieces of digital entertainment across several different mediums. Kojima cites the blurring lines between video games and movies as one of his reasons, citing the many Hollywood actors he has worked with across multiple cinematic games as one of his inspirations.
Kojima didn’t reveal any specific details as to what these film and television projects would be, so fans will just have to speculate on what he could be cooking up. One thing is for sure: The Death Stranding adaptation will not be one of them. In the same interview, Kojima downplayed his involvement in the film, stating he isn’t directing it but will still be involved in some capacity. But considering Kojima’s relationship with several Hollywood directors, finding someone to helm the project won’t be that hard. And Kojima has stated he has interest in directing a movie himself, whether it be in a Death Stranding-related project or something new down the line.
Nevertheless, Kojima joins a growing list of video game developers making the jump to Hollywood. The Last of Us director Neil Drunkmann is heavily involved in the HBO adaptation, and Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard has contributed to the highly successful Fallout series on Prime Video. Considering how good these adaptations were, Kojima’s potential Hollywood projects sound even more exciting.
