CYGNI: All Guns Blazing is full speed or nothing, and your screen fills up very quickly with enemies. So we’re here to talk about dodging and if you can block incoming projectiles.
The chaotic nature of CYGNI: All Guns Blazing barely gives you a second to breathe. Alien ships swarm all around you and surround you quicker than cats around an automatic food dispenser. The bullet-hell nature of CYGNI means there is an emphasis on evading incoming fire and staying safe.
If you’ve played CYGNI, however, you know this isn’t always easy, and given you only have a single life on Normal and Hard difficulty, avoiding damage is paramount.
Is it possible to dodge or block in CYGNI: All Guns Blazing?
No, you can’t dodge in CYGNI: All Guns Blazing, and the only way to contend with the relentless onslaught of enemy attacks is to either try to avoid their fire, or tank damage and replenish your ship’s health by picking up enemy energy drops.
It feels very counterintuitive and hard to grasp, but you do have to either take damage and accept it, or demonstrate cat-like reflexes. The latter is extremely difficult at times—even level one on Easy Mode—and you have no choice but to be peppered with bullets more than a dummy in a firing range.
CYGNI‘s gameplay is all about risk vs. reward; while it’s inevitable you take damage, the more offensive and on the front foot you can be and kill enemies, the more energy drops appear—giving you plenty of opportunities to restore your shield.
Practice and getting used to CYGNI‘s gameplay mechanics is something only time can make happen. Start on easy difficulty, improve your ability, and eventually, you forget the twin-stick shooter omits dodging and blocking altogether.
