CS2’s launch is upon us after all the teasing Valve has done in September. This is leading fans from all over the world to wonder what will happen to CS:GO when CS2 releases.
With so much content tied to CS:GO accounts around the world through almost 11 years, players can only think about what will happen to the game when CS2 is out. In short, CS:GO will be gone, but its content will stay.
Will CS:GO shut down when Counter-Strike 2 releases?
Valve’s wording on the future of CS:GO is indirect but clear. On CS2′s Limited Test page, Valve says CS2 will be a free upgrade to CS:GO.
That likely means CS2 will replace CS:GO in players’ Steam accounts and the game as we know it today will be gone. Those who want to keep playing CS:GO will probably be forced to move to CS2, just like what happened to Overwatch players when Overwatch 2 was released.
So, if you already own a copy of CS:GO on your Steam account, that game should automatically become CS2 when Valve launches it.
Will my CS:GO inventory carry over to CS2?
Valve has confirmed all your CS:GO inventory, including gun skins, will be moved over to CS2. Though the new game looks much different than CS:GO in terms of graphics and some mechanics, it will still feature the same skins you’re used to seeing in CS:GO.
Although Valve didn’t confirm when CS2 is launching, the developer teased it’s coming out on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
