The option to customize and cater your user interface to your liking is one of the many benefits of CS:GO. Changing your FOV is something that makes CS:GO your own.
In stark contrast to most modern shooters, CS:GO is known for its customization, whether it’s crosshairs, HUD scale, or view model position. The console allows you to modify almost anything in the game.
Learning what console commands change certain elements of your CS:GO game is essential for quick tweaks to change your experience. These console commands can change things like FOV, sound settings, fix abrupt lag spikes, and even call votes. The possibilities are near-endless thanks to Valve letting you take the wheel.
What is FOV in CS:GO?
FOV stands for field-of-view and allows you to change the things like where your gun sits on your screen and its movement. Other titles have FOV settings but typically aren’t as in-depth as CS:GO.
Your field-of-view can be changed so your weapon sits further to the side or even higher and lower on your screen. I personally play with my weapon on the left-hand side of my screen, and as far to the bottom left as I can put it.
CS:GO allows you to change which side of the screen your weapon sits on, and even reduce the amount of bobbing while running and shooting. I reduce bobbing as much as possible so I have less movement on my screen as possible. It makes it easier for me to focus, and it’ll likely help some of you too.
Players can be right or left-eye dominant, meaning there can be a significant impact in switching where your weapon sits on your screen. If you’re right-eye dominant, it’s probably better that your weapon is on the other side of your screen, meaning you’d be able to spot things appearing on that side easier.
How to determine your dominant eye for CS:GO
Find an object on your wall quite some distance away. Then aim your thumb directly in front of that object with your arm fully extended. You’ll want to focus on that object with it being in the center of the circle. Then you’ll close one eye, and keep one open. Then switch eyes. The eye that keeps your thumb in line with the object is your dominant eye. Some people don’t have a dominant eye, so don’t stress if it doesn’t work.
How to change FOV in CS:GO
If you want to have a change of pace, increasing or decreasing your field of vision (FOV) could be well worth the effort. But how exactly do you change it?
If you haven’t already, you’ll have to enable the console and bind it to a key. You can do this by clicking Help NS Options, navigating to Game Settings, and choosing Enable Developer Console. The default key should be tilde (~).
FOV Console Command
Once your console is up and running, head to a private or public match, press tilde (or whatever you bond the console to), type “viewmodel_fov,” and press enter. There are tons of different FOV and view model settings for CS:GO. An important one to remember is the cl_righthand 1 console command. This will move your gun to the left or right-hand side of your screen, depending on whether you place a zero instead of a one.
You have a few options when it comes to your field of vision. The lowest possible FOV is 54 and the highest is 67. The lower your FOV, the closer your character model will appear on your screen, and the higher, the farther away it will look.
If you can’t decide on your FOV, the pros—those who play at the highest level for big cash prizes—generally lean towards a higher FOV. Most, including arguably the greater player of all time Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, opt for “viewmodel_fov 68.”
