Fnatic earned first place in Group A play with wins over Luminosity Gaming and OpTic Gaming on Cobblestone in today’s best-of-one matches. Their victories in the initial and winners’ match makes them the first team to reach the semifinals of the $750,000 event in Cancun, Mexico.

The Swedes’ first map of the day went fairly well, as Robin “flusha” Rönnquist and Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson shined in two consecutive halves against Luminosity. After a strong defensive half at 10-5, Fnatic slipped up a bit as Terrorists before finally cleaning up the server at 16-12. Flusha and Lekr0 ended the map with 32 frags each and over 100 average damage per round, with Lekr0 amounting to an insane 62.5 headshot percentage.

Their second match of Cobblestone against OpTic was entirely one-sided, however. OpTic only pocketed two rounds throughout the entire map (16-2), as Fnatic were playing absolutely fundamental Counter-Strike to end their first day. Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson even earned himself a nutty CZ-75 ace against the mixed European team during an eco round, allowing him to end the map with 26 frags and a 143.4 ADR.

Fnatic’s semifinal match will be on Dec. 17, when the playoff stage begins and four contenders get ready to fight for the last championship title of 2017.
