The best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team in the world wasted no time enforcing their will on the most recent Major champions at today’s ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier.
Astralis and Cloud9 kicked off the eight-team tournament earlier today, and the Danes were eager to start their event off strong. They did precisely that too, defeating C9 in two straight games behind a strong performance from Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first game, Inferno, where C9 AWPer Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham forced overtime with a three-kill play that featured three different weapons. Unfortunately, C9 were unable to overcome the ESL Pro League Season Seven champions in the extra rounds.
Overpass wasn’t nearly as close—none of the C9 players finished with a positive kill-death ratio. On the other side, though, Astralis had four positive players and a much more cohesive playstyle that led to a 16-9 map victory and the series win.
The player of the match was undoubtedly dev1ce, who ended up with 33 more kills than deaths in the series. In both games, he also finished with the most kills and highest rating in the lobby, while his teammates supported his aggressive play.
C9’s fill-ins, Martin “STYKO” Styk and Maikil “Golden” Selim, looked overmatched and uncoordinated against the Danes—but so did their three American teammates. The ELEAGUE Boston Major champions will need to rebound with a strong performance on Tuesday, July 24, when they’ll play the loser of MIBR vs. Team Liquid.
Astralis await the winner of that same match—they’ll play again on Monday, July 23.
