Queensland-based organizer, XP Esports, has teamed up with Wager Bot and the University of Queensland Union to launch one of the biggest Call of Duty Pro-Am tournaments for the ANZ region. Other companies are also on board with this tournament, including Asus and its Republic of Gamers brand, as well as Ultimate Esports, another organization dedicated to the development of the Australian scene.
Brodie Fisher, the founder of XP Esports, told Dot Esports that he’s excited about the opportunity. “At XP Esports, we are always looking at new ways to engage and support the grassroots level of esports,” Fisher said. “Hamish (Winch) from XP has been a driving force in our team to get this event up and running and has put a tremendous amount of work in. This is only the beginning for major grassroots events and major events for not only Queensland but our region.”
Online qualifiers for the event will begin in February and the finals are set to be held live in Brisbane. The XP Esports Pro-Am is a fantastic opportunity for teams to garner LAN experience in a region that hasn’t had much support for the Call of Duty franchise.
The first tournament will only be played on the PlayStation 4 console. But Fisher didn’t rule out supporting other platforms in the future, including PC. You can keep up to date on when the qualifiers begin via XP Esports’ Facebook page.
