While Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode is a return to round-based form, that doesn’t mean it’s a total rehash without any new features.
BO6 Zombies introduces two new maps at launch, plus a new Field Upgrade, GobbleGums are back from Black Ops 3, and there’s even a new damage type that comes with its very own Ammo Mod, too. That’s right, there are more new ways to slay the undead hordes than ever before.
The four classic Ammo Mods are back, but this fifth one is different and more interesting than most. On Zombies’ two new maps, Terminus and Shadow Falls, you’ll need all the help you’re going to get when dealing with the hordes that are headed your way.
Here’s everything we know about the new damage type and Ammo Mod in Black Ops 6 Zombies.
What is Shadow Rift in Black Ops 6 Zombies?
Shadow Rift is a new Ammo Mod in Black Ops 6 Zombies, joining the existing four that are already in the game: Brain Rot, Cryo Freeze, Dead Wire, and Napalm Burst. It features a new elemental damage type, Shadow, and can sometimes trigger a unique effect.
Here’s Shadow Rift’s description from Activision and Treyarch:
- “Bullets deal shadow damage. Each bullet has a chance to spawn a black hole if striking Normal or Special enemies, warping nearby zombies away and dropping some from the air at high speed.”
If shooting zombies and devouring them with RNG black holes doesn’t sound fun to you, then I don’t know if Zombies is your game. But for me, I can’t wait to see how this thing works.
Shadow Rift BO6 Zombies Ammo Mod – All Augments
Shadow Rift and all other Ammo Mods can be buffed by another new feature called Augments. To learn more about Augments, check out our guide, but basically, it’s like a perk to improve things like Ammo Mods, Field Upgrades, and perks.
Each Ammo Mod has three Minor and three Major Augments. Here’s what we know so far about Shadow Rift’s Augments:
Shadow Rift Minor Augments
- Targeted: Dropped zombies fall on other zombies.
Shadow Rift Major Augments
- Explosive Rain: Zombies that are dropped from portals will explode on contact with the ground.
This article will be updated with more information when it becomes available. Black Ops 6 is set to be released on Oct. 25.
