Insured weapon slots are an essential part of any dedicated DMZ player’s loadout. But starting in season four of Call of Duty Warzone and Modern Warfare 2, unlocking those insured weapon slots now takes some added steps.

Players can use insured weapon slots to select a specific weapon to take with them into any DMZ deployment. And if the player is killed, the weapon is eventually returned after a short cooldown, unlike contraband weapons which are lost forever. The insured weapon cooldown can be reduced by earning XP, namely through successful extractions. Any unlocked weapon with any unlocked attachment can be assigned to the insured slot, even blueprints.

DMZ players will have one insured spot to start out with, but the truly dedicated will want to take advantage of that second and third slot. Here’s how to get them.

Unlocking insured weapon slots in DMZ, a guide

Unlocking both the second and third insured weapon slots requires you to reach level four reputation with the Black Mous faction. To reach level four, you have to clear the first tier of Black Mous faction missions, then do just one or two tier-two missions. Urgent missions will qualify as well.

Once you reach level four reputation with Black Mous, to unlock the second insured slot, you must extract three IFAKs, one AFAK or large medical bag, and one weapon from an enemy operator.

IFAKs, as mentioned above, are found in hospitals. Search all of the medicine cabinets, first aid stations, and other loot containers there and you should find plenty. AFAKs are also located in medical areas like hospitals and field treatment tents.

To extract an enemy operator’s weapon, you will have to kill an enemy or find a downed player. You can either try camping an exfil point or going after a player who’s alerted the map by picking up a weapon case. Take their weapon, then exfil.

Once you reach reputation level four with Black Mous, to unlock the third insured slot, you must extract five GPUs, 10 gold bars, and 10 gold skulls.

GPUs are located in computers but are very rare to find. Your best bet in season six is to hit up the Stage Bag secret cache, which can be found on Vondel.

Tip:

You’ll need a Stage Bag Key or a Skeleton Key to access each bag.

I managed to use a Skeleton Key twice in the same session, but I definitely recommend just going after one at a time.

Gold bars are a rare loot item that can be found in various caches, but also banks on Al Mazrah and sometimes off of enemy commanders. The more rare the container, such as ones found with bosses or in Strongholds, the better the odds at finding gold bars.

There are numerous methods of acquiring gold skulls, but they are most commonly found by defeating bosses or commanders such as the Bombmaker on Ashika Island or the Pyro on Vondel or Al Mazrah. Gold skulls can also be acquired from police stations or the Sawah Hotel, but again, they’re very rare.

I suggest finding a Secure Intel contract on Al Mazrah and completing it, revealing the location of a commander. Then, head to and defeat the commander as fast as possible. Ideally, defeat the Chemist first as he’s easy to find—he’s always in the middle of the gas zone on your Tactical Map.

From there, eliminate as many commanders as you see fit, but make sure you extract your skulls.

How to decrease the cooldown time for each insured slot

In season six of DMZ, it is possible to reduce the cooldown times for each insured slot. Like the unlock method, you will be required to complete an objective first before you can reduce a slot’s cooldown time.

  • Slot one cooldown reduction
    • 25 percent: Reach reputation level three with the Phalanx faction
    • 25 percent: Reach reputation level nine with the Phalanx faction
  • Slot two cooldown reduction
    • 25 percent: Complete both slot one upgrades, and reach reputation level five with the Phalanx faction
    • 25 percent: Complete both slot one and two upgrades, and reach reputation level 12 with the Phalanx faction.
  • Slot three cooldown reduction
    • 25 percent: Complete all slot one and slot two upgrades, and reach reputation level seven with the Phalanx faction.
    • 25 percent: Complete all slot one, two, and three upgrades, and reach reputation level 15 with the Phalanx faction.
