A confusing choice of words.

There’s plenty to do in Call of Duty’s latest release Modern Warfare 3, but one task many players will need to complete are the game’s challenges. One such challenge—getting Operator kills—has caused some confusion among the fanbase.

Daily challenges are part of a major change for the CoD series in MW3 as you need to complete these to unlock new equipment, weapons, killstreaks, and more via the Armory whereas previous games had these unlocks via level progression.

As such, grinding daily challenges is a necessary task for players who are looking to complete their loadout in MW3, with even basic equipment like Semtex locked behind this approach.

A challenge that has regularly popped up requiring players to get Operator kills has resulted in some confusion but, thankfully, there’s an easy explanation.

What are Operator kills in MW3?

Operator kills in MW3 are simply multiplayer kills against enemy players—that’s it. Bots, zombies, or campaign enemies won’t count here—you’ll need to load up multiplayer and frag out against real people.

The wording for the challenge is likely confusing for many but there is a simple translation; killing Operators is the game’s way of saying you need to kill enemy players in multiplayer.

Due to issues tracking daily challenges in the game currently, a running tally of your kills may not appear alongside the challenge. However, once you hit the threshold the challenge should be completed in the normal way.

In terms of how exactly to kill enemy operators, it’s simply a matter of playing the game. Any kill against another real player will count toward this challenge in MW3. Pick your favorite gun, grab a couple of grenades, and get out there and frag out.

However, if you find yourself getting limited kills and want to speed up the process, game modes like Headquarters and Domination are a good way of stacking up kills. Play above or around the objective rather than directly on it and fire away from a distance.

Tip:

Another great multiplayer mode to try is War Game, which features plenty of enemy operators over a large map to bring down. I complete my Kill Enemy Operators challenge in one session of War Game most of the time!

Once you’ve got the kills you need to complete the challenge, you’ll automatically be marked as one step closer to achieving the next Armory unlock you have tracked.
