The first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s campaign came today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and it’s looking like an early ’90s romp.
The video shown off near the beginning of the show gave a peek at a campaign mission named “Most Wanted,” taking place at a political fundraiser. The rogue Black Ops team is there to attempt to rescue Russell Adler, who’s apparently been in custody for some kind of crime.
The BO6 team is there under the orders of Frank Woods, another returning character from the franchise. Former President Bill Clinton is seen at the rally, giving a new spin to the franchise that features a historical figure still living. It appears that the event takes place at a rally for Clinton himself.
The team rescues Adler and all hell breaks loose when a soldier in a juggernaut suit shows up with a Gatling gun, giving the player character a chance to show off an equipment wheel, showing the return of the RC-XD killstreak to blow them up sky-high.
As the team uses an elevator shaft to escape, an explosion knocks them off course with classic CoD flare. Explosions, gunfire, fun military jargon, and more were all on display as the team makes a daring escape, fighting off waves of enemies
The campaign looks to be familiar to anyone who’s played the series before: big action sequences, stealth sessions, and, oh yeah, an exploding knife that the player character steers through the air like an Arkham Knight batarang before the team hops on motorcycles to make their final exit.
With the campaign revealed, all eyes turn to next week’s CoD Next event where multiplayer, Zombies, and the future of Warzone will be on display on Aug. 28. Black Ops 6 launches on Oct. 25.
