There are 35 voices that fill Alone in the Dark‘s mysterious Decerto Manor. After spending countless hours repeating chapters for those damn Lagniappes, I’ll truly never forget the voice actors of Alone in the Dark, as they breathe life into its surrealistic story.

Alone in the Dark voice actors: Main cast

Emily Hartwood

Jodie Comer is the voice of Emily Hartwood, the female lead in Alone in the Dark. Comer is best known for playing Villanelle in Killing Eve, which earned her a BAFTA for Best Actress in 2019. She also won Best Actress for Help, a drama centered around the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Alone in the Dark, Emily Hartwood is Edward Carnby’s client. These are the two playable characters you can choose from in chapter one. The game centers around her relationship with her uncle, Jeremy, who is missing inside Derceto. Unlike Edward, Emily has a pre-existing relationship with the Derceto staff. However, she often isn’t given the same treatment as Edward, where she is attacked by Batiste who initially didn’t recognise her, and stopped at Derceto’s front door when Edward is allowed to snoop around.

Edward Carnby

David Harbour voices Edward Carnby, the male protagonist of Alone in the Dark. Harbour is most famous for his role as Chief Jim Hopper in all four seasons of Stranger Things, earning ten award nominations and winning two, including the Critics’ Choice Television Awards for supporting actor and the Screen Actors Guild Awards for ensemble work with the full cast.

Edward Carnby is a private investigator, hired by Emily to find Jeremy. Edward doesn’t have any pre-existing relationships in Derceto…that we know of (at the start of the game). However, due to his authoritative status, he has more control over his actions inside Derceto than Emily as he conducts his investigation into Jeremy’s whereabouts.

Both playable characters have their own repressed past that they must acknowledge while they evade monsters and learn about the Dark Man’s hold on Jeremy.

Jeremy Hartwood

Jeremy Hartwood, played by Paul Mercier, is the character at Alone in the Dark‘s center. He is the focal point of the story as Emily and Edward try to locate him throughout. Jeremy, in simple terms, is a man filled with fear. As a Derceto patient, others residing in the Derceto Manor seek his knowledge of the Dark Man and the ancient gods that appear to converse with him.

Grace

Grace, voiced by Glory Joy Rose, is a character shrouded in mystery. Her identity is developed through the story, with a different side revealed depending on who you choose to play as. Grace is a mischievous child with a dark edge that is unsurprising once you learn her identity through Edward’s perspective.

Dr. Gray

Dr. Gray is a difficult one to work out. Bruce Nozick does an amazing job at hitting that arrogant, narcissistic brief for the voice acting of Gray (at least, I hope that was the intention). As the Derceto psychologist and the only real hope for patients to get better, Gray comes across as a somewhat evil man. Gray has his own secrets you’ll uncover as you dive into Jeremy’s contract with the Dark Man, so be sure to keep an eye out for any sighting of Gray.

Lottie Tabouis

Lottie is Derceto’s orderly. Played as Jasmine Gatewood, her story goes hand-in-hand with Batiste, who (although separated throughout the tale) has the closest bond with Lottie throughout Alone in the Dark. There isn’t too much to tell about this character as she only has three appearances in the entire game, but you learn more about her through clues and listening in on her conversations with the staff at Derceto in Chapter Four.

Jean-Batiste Tabouis

Batiste, voiced by Clé Bennett, is the first good NPC you meet inside Jeremy’s memories. It is uncertain if the orderlies, Lottie and Batiste, can be seen as the good guys or if they’re simply taking Edward and Emily for a ride. Batiste seems like the most considerate and compassionate character in Derceto, and his presence there doesn’t seem to fit like the others. Similar to Lottie, you learn more about his story through Clues and by eavesdropping at locked doors in Chapter Four.

Mrs. Thompson

Mrs. Thompson is the Derceto Housekeeper. Voiced by Susanne Blakeslee, Thompson is a true stickler for the rules who wants nothing more than to send Edward and Emily packing the moment they break into Derceto. You can tell she holds the Manor close to her heart and takes the events revolving around Jeremy and the Dark Man incredibly seriously.

Ruth Tallant

Kelly Ohanian plays as Ruth Tallant, acting as the familiar face amongst the dark mystery of the Derceto Manor. She is a beacon of safety for Edward and Emily. She is often seen showcasing her deeper knowledge about Derceto, Jeremy, and the main characters’ identities. Ruth is by far the most mysterious patient of them all. She offers a lot of insight and hints towards Edward’s and Emily’s secrets before we begin to learn about them.

MacCarfey

MacCarfey is played by Roger Jackson. His main role in Derceto is to watch Grace at all times, acting as her babysitter leading up to Chapter Five. Often seen drunk, MacCarfey has a sketchy demeanor that makes everything he says completely untrustworthy.
