Pokémon designs have been evolving for years and one of the best examples is Generation VIII’s Grass and Dragon-type Pokémon, Applin. Now, with the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask DLC, this strange creature is getting a third evolution—Dipplin.
In the past, you had two options to evolve Applin: Flapple and Appletun. Now, this apple-inspired creature can evolve into the odder, sweeter Dipplin, which is themed after the tasty toffee-dipped apples found in the land of Kitakami.
The tricky part to getting this delicacy is going to be evolving your Applin. When I first started playing The Teal Mask finding this Pokémon was one of my main objectives and I expect many other trainers will feel the same. As you’d expect from a Pokémon with so many evolution options, the process isn’t as simple as just leveling your Pokémon.
How to evolve Applin into Dipplin in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask
To evolve Applin into its new evolution you’ll need one item: the Syrupy Apple. Fortunately, like Dipplin, this item can be found fairly easily in the new Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Teal Mask.
You will find Syrupy Apples for sale at a stand on a farm near the Mossfell Confluence on the bottom right of the map. It isn’t far from the starting area you will be returning to throughout your journey in Kitakami.
Once you have the item, simply choose it from your bag, select use, and click Applin from your party. It’s that simple! You should now see the evolution screen and get your new Dipplin.
This is the only method we have found in the game to get Dipplin. Unlike its pre-evolution, it doesn’t seem that The Teal Mask’s Kitakami island has anywhere to catch the newcomer in the wild and it has yet to be spotted in Tera Raids.
Can Dipplin evolve in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Dipplin does not have an evolution available in The Teal Mask. This is likely to change in the future, however.
Dataminers have found space for several new Pokémon within the files, and, while nothing concrete has been uncovered, there is clear evidence that DIpplin will get an evolution in The Indigo Disk. We will need to wait for actual confirmation before believing anything else since the only thing in the current version of Scarlet and Violet pointing to this is a specific item working where it normally wouldn’t if Dipplin was a single-stage evolution for Applin.
