The Wolf star system is of interest to Starfield players for one main reason: selling contraband. If you happen to have something in your possession that might get you in a lot of trouble, you’ll want to go there. Just make sure you know what you are getting into if you plan on dealing in this illegal trade.
Where to find the Wolf star system
The Wolf star system is very close to where you begin the game as it’s just one jump to the northeast of Alpha Centauri on the starmap. It is surrounded by Sol, Bernard’s Star, and Narion, so it can be considered part of the central area of the map. Because it is so close to where you start, you’ll have no problem reaching here with the Frontier—your starting ship.
All POIs in the Wolf system
Planet | Available Resources |
Etherea | None |
Pontem (Moon of Etherea) | Water (H20) Lead (Pb) Silver (Ag) Mercury (Hg) |
Chthonia | Helium-3 (He-3) Aluminum (Al) Beryllium (Be) |
There are two planets in the Wolf system: Etherea and Chthonia. You can’t land on Etherea since it’s a gas giant, but it does have a moon called Pontem that has plenty of resources. There is also a massive debris field of a previous space station in orbit around Etherea called Etherea Ruins, but it doesn’t have anything there unless you’re working on the United Colonies mission Devils You Know.
You can land on Chthonia, and it also has a handful of useful resources. It doesn’t offer much in terms of interesting flora or fauna, however.
How to reach The Den
To find The Den, you’ll have to open your starmap and travel to the planet Chthonia. Once you’re in the planet’s orbit, you’ll see The Den marked with a white diamond marker. Fly within 500 meters of the station, and you’ll be able to dock and board.
The Den is the premiere spot for selling contraband, and because of that, the various government bodies who need to pretend that they are concerned about smuggling can still take advantage of all manner of black-market goods.
To sell your contraband, visit the Trade Authority booth located on your left after entering the station — not the terminal on the right. The terminal will only allow you to sell normal items and not your contraband. Most importantly, there are no scans as you enter this system or The Den itself, which implies the tacit acceptance by local authorities that this service needs to exist.
If you need to drop into a surrounding system and you still have some contraband on board, you will get scanned and wind up in hot water. As such, consider looking into ways to hide your contraband. This can be done via shielded cargo capacity that you can buy for your ship.
