The Australian Esports League (AEL) announced via Twitter that they have partnered with C.EX Group for a regional tournament to take place in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. Also on board with this tournament is KFC who has recently thrown its hat into the esports arena. The Coffs Harbour regional will be the first esports event for KFC on Australian shores.
Players will compete for a $3,000 prize pool across Tekken 7, FIFA, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The prize pool isn’t the main attraction here, however. Big cities are constantly hosting major events, but having small events in regional areas like this will raise more awareness for esports in areas of the country that tend to miss out.
Speaking to Dot Esports, Darren Kwan, co-founder of AEL, echoed those sentiments saying, “It is all about promoting the regional communities and driving a connection between the neighborhoods. The three KFC stores around Coffs Harbour will also be running promotions.”
You can sign up for the Coffs Regional via its website. The tournament is set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 9 at C.ex Coffs. Entries are limited so make sure you get your crew together early and register.
