Within the Myconid Colony in Baldur’s Gate 3 one woman is frantically looking for her husband when you arrive. The woman’s husband, Baelen, is a mushroom picker and has gotten into trouble.
This starts the side quest called “Mushroom Picker” Baelen has run off and it is your job to find him and safely bring him back to his wife.
Where to find the Mushroom Picker: Baelen’s location in Baldur’s Gate 3
Baelen is located directly northwest of the Myconid Colony waypoint and northeast of the Sussur Tree waypoint at the coordinates X: -23 and Y: -62. There will be a marker on your map called “Find the Mushroom Picker” once you accept the quest. There is only a single path that leads to the mushroom field where he’s holed up, as you can see below.
If you’re in the Myconid Colony, you can take the road west and climb over some mushrooms to reach a new road. From here, go slightly north until you reach an intersection where you want to head north. This leads you straight to the mushroom fields.
When you find Baelen he’ll be in the middle of a Bibberbang mushroom field which is a fungus that will explode with flammable fumes.
Getting too close to the Bibberbang Mushrooms will cause them to explode and could set off the whole field. Naturally, Baelen being in the middle isn’t ideal, and you need to figure out how to free him so he can return safely to his wife and keep living his life in Myconid Colony.
How to save Baelen from the mushrooms in BG3
To save Baelen in the Mushroom Picker quest, players can use one of the following:
- Fly: You can fly over to Baelen’s Bag without setting off the Mushrooms
- Misty Step: You can teleport over to Baelen’s Bag without setting off the Mushrooms
- Enhanced Leap: You can leap over to Baelen’s Bag without setting off the Mushrooms
- Misty Step Scroll: You can toss Baelen a Misty Step Scroll so he can teleport to you without setting off the Mushrooms
- Dimensional Door: You can teleport to Baelen’s Bag without setting off the Mushrooms
I decided to take my chaotic good character and shoot an arrow at a single mushroom, which caused a chain reaction that exploded every mushroom in the field. Baelen survived and came out of the field while he was on fire. However, he was able to heal himself, and I could speak to him to return him safely to his wife.
If you want a safer option, you can use the Misty Step or Fly spell to teleport over to a safe area at the back of the mushroom field. Here, you will find Baelen’s bag along with Baelen himself.
- Open up Baelen’s bag to retrieve the scroll of Misty Step
- Throw the scroll over to him.
- He will then use it to make it safely out of the field.
- You can teleport again to get out of the field and then talk to Baelen to ensure he gets home safely.
Completing the Mushroom Picker quest requires you to speak to his wife, Derryth, back at the Myconid Colony.
