Keeping the Old Traditions is one of the many side quests you can complete in Diablo 4, and it’s one of the earlier ones you will run into. We first found the quest around the time we were grinding to level 34.

Despite looking like a simple and quick quest, it proved a real challenge since we had not yet learned how to use emotes in Diablo 4 when we first started the quest—and you’ll need to know how to use them for this one.

Where to find the Keeping the Old Traditions quest in Diablo 4

The Keeping the Old Traditions quest can be found and started by interacting with the side quest marker (the blue exclamation point) on the cliffs north of the Champions Demise dungeon in the Untamed Scarps of the Dry Steppes.

If you’re unfamiliar with the area, you can also find the Diablo 4 quest starter by following these three easy steps:

  1. Teleport to the Jirandai Waypoint.
  2. Head northeast from the waypoint and toward the north of the Champions Demise dungeon.
  3. Follow the path north of the dungeon and climb up the cliff to find the book that will start the quest.
    • There are a few skeletal mobs you’ll need to kill first before you can interact with the book.
    • A riddle will appear when you read the book, giving you the quest objective and also the answer to the riddle. Don’t worry—if riddles aren’t your cup of tea, we have the answer in the walkthrough below.

How to complete Keeping the Old Traditions: full walkthrough

You can complete the Keeping the Old Traditions quest by following these steps:

  1. Open your quest journal via the map and select Keeping the Old Traditions as your active mission.
  2. Move to the marked area on your map.
    • This marked area shows as a blue circle, and it’s to the left of your current location.
  3. Look for a giant statue in the marked area. It’s the one on the cliffside with the glowing torch.
    • There are also skeletal mobs you need to kill before moving on to the next step.
  4. Use the “Yes” emote in front of the statue.
  5. Open the hidden chest that will spawn after using the emote.

Once you’ve looted the hidden chest, the Keeping the Old Traditions quest in Diablo 4 will be marked as complete.

Keeping the Old Traditions quest rewards

In addition to the two elixirs you get from looting the hidden chest, you will also gain experience and gold for completing the Keeping the Old Traditions quest in Diablo 4.

The grade of the elixir and the amount of gold and experience you get will depend on which World Tier you’re completing the quest in. I actually completed mine in World Tier Four so that I’d get better elixirs and more gold and experience. This is one of the reasons why I like completing my side quests in World Tier Four. However, you can complete this quest as soon as it becomes available; it’s up to you when you get it done.
