If you’re in the process of completing The Clues To The Sky quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to know where to find King Dorephan. That’s because finding him is the first objective of the quest, and he’ll hand you some key items that are essential in completing the last part of the Zora storyline.

Trying to find Dorephan is meant to be tricky. TOTK won’t do you any favors in helping find him, so grab your deerstalker and prepare to hunt. Or you can do what I did, and accidentally find him as you attempt to traverse down a big old mountain.

Unfortunately for those of you thinking you can find him sitting at the quest marker, you might have a rough time. Dorephan is hiding elsewhere, recovering from a battle that nearly cost him his life. But he’s hiding with Muzu, who’s less important and rather grouchy.

How to find King Dorephan and each waterfall entry in TOTK

Finding King Dorephan is an essential part of removing all the sludge surrounding the area. Dorephan will be residing inside Pristine Sanctum as Prince Sidon handles the sludge engulfing the region. Your mission will be to go find Dorephan in search of answers.

For those of you who aren’t lucky enough to stumble upon him, to find King Dorephan, you’ll need a bit of help from some troublesome younglings playing in the throne room in Zora’s Domain. Make your way there, but don’t approach them directly. They’ll shoo you away. Instead, climb the side of the throne and approach them from behind.

Eavesdropping in TOTK seems to be an effective tool for finding out the juicy gossip. As soon as you’re close enough to the young Zora, you’ll be able to hear them talk about King Dorephan. They’ll loudly discuss his location in a cave hidden behind a waterfall. You’ll be able to find the waterfall between Ploymus Mountain and Zora’s Domain.

King Dorephan’s exact location in TOTK

King Dorephan is behind the waterfall at Mikau Lake in Pristine Sanctum. You can get this information from the kids playing in the throne room of Zora’s Domain.

The exact coordinates for this are (3611, 0578, 0172). Make sure to complete the “Restoring the Zora Armor” quest first. There are two paths you can take to find King Dorephan.

How to find King Dorephan using the waterfall

Here are the steps to find King Dorephan by using the waterfall:

  1. Make your way to the location above, then look for the entrance by going through the waterfall
  2. Out of the several waterfalls in the river, go through the second waterfall to find King Dorephan’s sanctum.
  3. If you’re able to swim or glide through the bottom of the waterfall without hitting a wall, you’re on the right path.

Once that is done, you’re almost there. Follow the next steps accordingly:

  1. After going through the waterfall, find a doorway and another waterfall to swim through
  2. Use Zora Armor to swim up through this waterfall. You can get repaired Zora Armor from Yona.
  3. If done properly, you should be able to find King Dorephan.

How to find King Dorephan using the Lulu Lake cave

A sneakier way of getting to Dorephan is through an easy-to-miss cave shaft by Lulu Lake, a couple of waterfalls above the main entrance to the Pristine Sanctum, at the exact coordinates (3708, 0599, 0361).

We’ve written out the steps needed to travel through the cave below.

  1. Find the waterfall that flows into Lulu Lake
  2. Look for a cave opening on your left. It’ll be hidden by a handful of rocks
  3. Climb on top of these rocks and you’ll be able to see the water flowing down into the sanctum and the opening.
  4. If you take this route, you don’t need the Zora armor to swim up any waterfalls. You can just use Link’s Paraglider to float safely down.

While the paraglider can be an easy-breezy method, I chose the more dangerous route of flying through the gap, only taking bits of damage on my way down.

You’ll find King Dorephan sitting there on a throne. Speak to him to receive five King’s Scales, which play an important role in finishing the Clues to the Sky quest. Return to him at any time throughout the quest to receive more.
