In Pokémon Go, you have to capture and train your own Pokémon just as you would in the mainline Pokémon games. One difference, however, is that Pokémon in Pokémon Go have a Combat Power (CP) rating. The question is: how high can a Pokémon’s CP go?

Here is our guide to the highest CP in Pokémon Go.

What is CP in Pokémon Go?

Before we can find out the maximum limit for CP in Pokemon Go, there are a few things to understand about CP. Combat Power is an aggregate reading of a Pokémon’s raw power based on various factors such as their hidden stats (level and base stats) and their Individual Values (IVs). In Pokémon Go, a Pokémon’s IVs can be viewed at any time. Here’s a small breakdown of what each one affects:

  • Attack — How much damage a Pokémon can inflict during a battle. This stat is the most directly influenced by a Pokémon’s individual CP.
  • Defense — How much damage a Pokémon can withstand during a battle, but not what determines a Pokémon’s HP. Also affected by a Pokémon’s individual CP.
  • Stamina — How much HP a Pokémon has during a battle.
Tip:

If you ever want to look over your Pokémon’s IVs, you’ll want to use the Pokémon Appraisal option. This will give you a nice, detailed rundown for any of your Pokémon’s IVs.

Realistically speaking, a Pokémon with a higher CP will be stronger than a Pokémon with a lower CP and have a much better chance of victory in battle. So, it’s ideal to ensure you have the best on hand.

What is the highest CP attainable in Pokémon Go?

The highest CP in Pokémon Go is currently 6,672 CP, which belongs to a couple of Mega-evolved Pokémon, though this is not the best way to recognize Pokémon’s power. Mega-evolution is a temporary buff that will go away after battle. That intimidatingly high CP is only available to Groudon and Kyogre when using the Mega-Evolution method. Regarding consistency, the non-Mega-evolved Pokémon with the highest CP attainable is Slaking, with a whopping 5,010 CP.

This might surprise some players since Legendary Pokémon have always been the ones with the highest stat totals in mainline Pokémon games. While that still holds true for Mega-evolved Pokémon, Slaking is the true king of CP for non-Mega-evolved pocket monsters. But if you want to push your CP limits, you should start looking towards Mega-evolved Pokémon.

Mega-evolved Pokémon with high CP

There are ten Mega-evolved Pokémon that have a higher CP than Slaking.

  • Mega Charizard Y, with a CP of 5,037.
  • Mega Gardevoir, with a CP of 5,101.
  • Mega Gyarados, with a CP of 5,332.
  • Mega Latias, with a CP of 5,428.
  • Mega Latios, with a CP of 5,661.
  • Mega Salamence, with a CP of 5,688.
  • Mega Tyranitar, with a CP of 6045.
  • Mega Rayquaza, with a CP of 6458.
  • And finally, as mentioned above, Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, with a CP of 6,672.

And there you have it: the highest possible CP attainable in Pokémon Go is 6,672. Having the Primal forms of Groudon or Kyogre in your party almost always guarantees a win through its sheer power. If you’re a new player starting, knowing how to use Friend Codes would be a blessing in disguise.
