Blizzard used an interesting method to reveal its newest Hearthstone card. The latest Kobolds and Catacombs Mage legendary was revealed in an email promotion by the company.
Dragoncaller Alanna is a 3/3 minion that costs nine mana. Its effect allows you to spawn a 5/5 Dragon for each spell you’ve played that costs five or more mana.
Mage is a spell-dependent class most of the time, meaning you could end up with a board filled with 5/5 Dragons in most meta decks. Cards like Meteor, Cabalist’s Tome, Blizzard, Firelands Portal, and others are currently staples in many Mage decks—and they all cost five or more mana. If you play two copies of each, that’ll get you a board full of Dragons.
The reason why this card may be good is that the Dragons can’t be cleared easily by many classes. In Priest, for example, Dragonfire Potion won’t deal damage to them, meaning the only way to clear them is to play Shadowreaper Anduin—but you could save Alanna until after that is played. Druid, Shaman, Hunter, Rogue (without Vanish), and Mage don’t have easy ways to clear a full board of 5/5 Dragons.
Dragoncaller Alanna could be seen frequently in constructed decks for a late-game Mage card that will dominate a board in the right situations and lead to a swift victory no matter what your opponent’s life is at.
Kobolds and Catacombs will be released Dec. 7. You can pre-order packs now and receive a special card back.
