Choosing a class in Diablo 4 can be challenging because you may have to consider DPS, play style, ease of leveling, or even if a class has an exceptionally high skill ceiling.

Although it might be cliche, the best class to play in Diablo 4 primarily depends on player preference. There are different options to consider when you start, but there are currently five classes in Diablo 4, including:

  • Barbarian
  • Sorcerer
  • Rogue
  • Druid
  • Necromancer

These classes are each quite different, offering extra power via their perks. The monsters are all designed to provide a balanced experience no matter your class, so there are no wrong options.

If you’re wondering which class you should play, consider each playstyle and whether you’d like to engage enemies up close and personal or from range. If you plan to play Diablo 4 with your friends, you may also want to choose a class complementary to what they’re playing.

The great thing about Diablo 4 is it allows you to create different characters and find one you like. So, you can try them all until you find one that suits your preferences and play style.

In most games, I prefer mid to long-ranged DPS characters, and I avoid melee characters like the plague. So, when selecting my characters in Diablo 4, I chose to play Necromancer and Sorcerer because they suit my preferences, fighting mechanics, and play style much better than a melee character, like Barbarian would.

But the Barbarian would be up your alley if you love that up-close-and-personal, in-your-face play style.

Ultimately, though, the best class in Diablo 4 is the one that works for you.

Best Diablo 4 classes for beginners

The best class for beginners in Diablo 4 is the Necromancer, which is often viewed as the core class of any Diablo game. Although the Necromancer did get nerfed after the beta, it is still quite strong and easy to use. The class’ skills are straightforward, and you can focus on staying alive.

But, if you prefer a melee play style, the Barbarian would be the best beginner class for you as they have a lot of health and can deal moderate melee damage. They’re also great at providing buffs.

Best Diablo 4 classes for veterans

There are two classes Diablo 4 veterans should play—Necromancer and Rogue. As I mentioned earlier, Necromancers are what Diablo games are known for. And maybe it’s nostalgia talking, but it’s also one of those classes you just have to play in every Diablo game.

Nostalgia aside, Rogues are more mechanically intense and are one of the classes that will challenge you. As a Rogue, you must know your abilities and when to switch between melee and ranged attacks.

And if you’re in a dire situation, you need to think on your feet, or else you’ll be six feet under because messing up isn’t an option. If you’re looking for a challenge, this is the class to pick.

What are the best Diablo 4 PvP classes?

Like most games, having the best PvP class can mean the difference between life and death. In Diablo 4, those classes are Rogue and Sorcerer. The Rogue offers substantial single-target burst damage, meaning your attacks are focused solely on one target to which you will do much damage.

Sorcerers do phenomenal damage as well but from a distance. So, you may be able to kill your opponent before they reach you. The downside to Sorcerers is they lack mobility, meaning if your foes get to you before you kill them, you may not survive.

Best Diablo 4 melee class

The best melee class in Diablo 4 is the Rogued because they deal high levels of damage and can get in and out to attack quickly. Not only that, but they can dual-wield their melee weapons, which look pretty cool during a fight.

Rogues can also imbue their skills like Twisting Blade and Flurry with shadow, ice, or poison. When these abilities are combined, you can pull off some battle-winning combos. But in fights against waves of minions, they suffer a little due to their lack of AoE damage.

Best Diablo 4 ranged class

In terms of range, the best Diablo 4 ranged class would be the Sorcerer. All of their abilities ensure a safe distance between you and your enemies. In addition, they provide substantial damage and crowd control, and you can attack multiple enemies at once, depending on how you’ve built your Sorcerer.

Overall, they have the best range and damage. But they are fragile and can die pretty quickly. So you do need to be mindful of your positioning in fights.

Although you won’t find Harry Potter in Diablo 4, the closest you’ll come to the wizarding world is through the Sorcerer class. Due to her range and serious damage, she is an excellent class in Diablo 4, although she is pretty squishy.

But if you love the idea of using different types of elemental magic, like fire and ice, being able to teleport, or summon a few hydrae to help you whittle away at your enemy’s health, then try the Sorcerer.

What is the best Diablo 4 class to level up quickly?

Regardless of which class you choose, grinding through the levels in Diablo 4 will take time. That being said, the Necromancer is the easiest class to level up quickly in Diablo 4 right now, especially on your first run-through, where you will want to prioritize the main campaign over raiding all the dungeons to ensure you don’t have to backtrack later.

You’ll find completing the quests, side quests, and events much more manageable with the additional damage and support from your minions, which means you’ll be able to complete more quests in less time and level up fairly quickly.

What is the best Diablo 4 class to play with your friends?

If you’re playing Diablo 4 with your friends, you can generally play whatever you like. In saying that, however, you may find the Barbarian is best to play with a group because it can be pretty challenging to take on hordes or bosses alone, as they don’t do high levels of damage like some other classes. Given how they have a hefty health bar, they can be the team’s tank.

If a tank character doesn’t suit your play style, however, or your team already has one, you may want to take a melee or ranged class that does high damage, like Sorcerer or Rogue. Or, if you wish to tank and do damage, the Druid is also a fun option to play with your friends. And it’s just a fun choice in general because of their shapeshifting abilities.

While there are five classes for you to choose from in Diablo 4, the best one is the one that will suit your interest, preferences, and play style.
