Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios, who competed for the majority of his career as part of TSM, has shifted allegiances and joined Tempo Storm for all future Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments after stepping down from the competitive scene in January.

“I’m super excited to be backed by an organization that is going to support my new path every step of the way,” ZeRo said in Tempo Storm’s press release. “It’s all been smooth sailing, and I’m really happy to bring back the tournament play that the people missed. I missed getting in the fray. Let’s do our best!”

At the time of his retirement, ZeRo had pretty much won everything that he could in the game. He is famous for going 53 games unbeaten in tournaments dating back to 2015 until he lost to Team Liquid’s Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada at the 2015 MLG World Finals.

After his retirement, ZeRo shifted his focus to streaming and promised to return to the competitive scene in the future if a new game in the series was released. Little did he know that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be announced mere months after he bowed out of the scene.

Joining ZeRo will be his long-time coach Daniel “Pierce7d” Seraphin, who was behind some of his famous wins. He has also casted with ZeRo in the past.

This is one of the first instances of a team picking up a player for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch, which releases worldwide on Dec. 7.
