With 2600 Smash 4 competitors and 2350 Melee players, this year’s EVO was the largest ever for the Super Smash Bros. community. As the second and third largest games respectively, the only game that topped them in sign-ups was the recently released Street Fighter V. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the results from this event. This was the largest Smash 4tournament in history. While it had it’s problems, which can be read about here on GAMURS, it was an impressive showing of talent. The top eight results for singles can be found below. 1st: Ally – $15,972 2nd: Kamemushi – $5,324 3rd: [TSM] ZeRo – $2,662 4th: [CLG] VoiD – $1064 5th/6th: Abadango – $532 5th/6th: Ranai – $532 7th/8th: [eLevate] Larry Lurr – $266 7th/8th: [dT] Dabuz – $266 Congrats to Ally, as this marks the first time that a Mario player has won a large major tournament. His victory displays the diversity of Smash 4 and how many characters can be considered viable. In similar vein, Kamemushi’s performance with MegaMan was also impressive. Hopefully we see more amazing tournaments like this in the future, and hopefully they will be organized better. While they did not receive as lackluster treatment as the Smash 4 players, some Melee community members have complained about the conditions of the tournament as well. But, nonetheless, it turned out to bean excellent event. The finals this year were a repeat matchup of last year, except for the fact that Hungry Box failed to reset the bracket and lost during thef irst best-of-five one year ago. A big congrats is also earned by Plup for managing to break past two gods and taking the bronze medal. This was an excellent conclusion to the biggest Smash tournament in history.
