Overwatch 2’s long-awaited PvE game mode has been a topic of discussion between gamers, developers, and gaming media outlets for months. Fear not, as we’ll never have to think about it again thanks to Blizzard scrapping the idea almost entirely. However, remnants of the sought-after game mode will sneak into Overwatch 2, in time.
Fans have been clamoring for a cooperative PvE experience ever since short PvE segments were included in Overwatch‘s Archives events. Now, PvE is coming, but it’s going to be scaled back from what was originally planned for the game.
We will be seeing a form of PvE in Overwatch 2, but when?
When will PvE be released in Overwatch 2?
During Microsoft’s Xbox Showcase on June 11, Blizzard released a brand new trailer for Overwatch 2’s PvE offerings and confirmed that the first entry of story missions and more will becoming in season six on Aug. 10.
Titled Overwatch: Invasion, the season will include story missions, a new co-op mode, a new support hero, and even more in the game’s “biggest content drop yet.”
According to reports, the PvE system will be released incrementally via a “seasonal” system. Back in June 2022, game director Aaron Keller shared that they were still working on all of the PvE parts of Overwatch 2.
Fans were originally promised a full Overwatch PvE experience, but this seasonal system is the path Blizzard is taking from now on.
This revelation stirred quite a significant amount of controversy from the community after years of hyped PvE promises fell flat. Instead, we’ll receive a selection of cooperative tidbits each season, which is a far cry from what we were originally promised.
Unfortunately, these are the cards we’ve been dealt.
On the other hand, this will give Blizzard ample opportunity to focus on the various bugs and glitches plaguing the hero shooter. Bugs have heavily impacted the beginning of each Overwatch season, and with Blizzard’s seasonal plan now set in stone, this could mean we’ll see fewer problems at the start of each major update.
