Activision entered the mobile gaming sphere in 2019 with the launch of the much-anticipated Call of Duty: Mobile—and it was an absolute success. The game has been downloaded millions of times with players from around the world taking CoD out of the lounge room or the PC and on the road with them via their mobile phones.
The publisher is now set to follow up the main game’s launch with Warzone Mobile, bringing the popular battle royale title to devices in the near future. But, after a number of changes to the core game to adapt it to phones and numerous delays, the launch date of Warzone Mobile is up in the air.
Here’s what we currently know about CoD: Warzone Mobile and its expected release date.
When will CoD: Warzone Mobile be released?
CoD: Warzone Mobile is set to release in the spring of 2024, according to a recent update during Activision’s October 2023 CoD Next showcase.
Alongside numerous announcements related to Modern Warfare 3’s beta and subsequent launch, Activision also revealed an update for Warzone Mobile, which included the confirmation that classic BR maps Verdansk and Rebirth Island will be playable in the game, as well as other multiplayer modes for players to try out.
Rebirth Island’s addition to the mobile game would only be confirmed if the game received a whopping 45 million users pre-registering, with the map included among a variety of other milestone rewards.
CoD: Warzone Mobile suffers delays
Alongside the content announcement, however, the development team let slip the title would be delayed beyond its intended 2023 release date. “We have a few more things we want to polish up before we release around the world in spring of 2024,” co-studio head Chris Plummer said during CoD Next.
Activision confirmed the game’s development in March 2022, announcing Warzone Mobile was entering closed alpha testing. At this time, Activision codenamed the title “Project Aurora.”
“Our mission with Project Aurora, the codename for our new mobile title, is to bring friends, families, and people around the world together in a global community of diverse players with a fast-paced, precise, and high-quality Battle Royale action experience that delivers a fresh new way to play,” Activision said in a blog post leading up to the game’s testing period.
In late 2022, Warzone Mobile began rolling out regional testing in Australia, with Sweden, Norway, and Chile added to the list in March 2023. It is still possible to play the beta version of the game, but you’ll need an Activision account based in one of the above countries and must use a VPN to access the client.
For those who aren’t that committed to trying the game early, you’ll be waiting a little longer for the game’s release—supposedly sometime during Q2 in 2024. In the meantime, kick back and relax with a little Warzone on PC or console, with new map Urzikistan coming with the launch of Modern Warfare 3 in November 2023.
