When picking out attack movesets for your Pokémon in Pokémon Go, there are many options you can select. They vary for every Pokémon you collect, though. For those who want a powerful Metagross on their team, it needs to learn a specific moveset combination.

There are only a handful of attacks you can teach Metagross. Despite these limited choices, figuring out the best moveset you want to create can be challenging. Certain attacks meld better with others for certain Pokémon in Pokémon Go, and Metagross can be a powerful asset. There might be better Legendary Pokémon, but Metagross can be used in several gameplay aspects that make it a worthwhile investment.

When it comes to using Metagross in Pokémon Go, the best moveset to teach it is the fast move Bullet Punch and the charged moves Meteor Mash and Earthquake. Of the two charged moves, Meteor Mash can be more challenging to learn as you can only teach it to Metagross during its Community Day event or if you have an Elite Charged TM. Outside of these events, it won’t learn this exclusive attack, making it a far more potent competitor.

For the fast move choices, you only have two with Metagross. It’s going to be between Bullet Punch or Zen Headbutt. You always want to go with the opposite choice of Zen Headbutt as it’s a relatively weak Psychic-type move and doesn’t offer any clear advantage to it. You want to avoid this attack at all costs, making Bullet Punch your best option.

Next, we have Metagross’ charged moves. Here’s a full breakdown of all the charged moves it can learn in Pokémon Go.

  • Earthquake (Ground-type)
  • Flash Cannon (Steel-type)
  • Meteor Mash (Steel-type)
  • Psychic (Psychic-type)
  • Return (Normal-type)

Meteor Mash and Earthquake are the top choices you want to go with. Psychic can be a great choice for Psychic-type Pokémon as it has a chance to deal a debuff to the target, but it’s not strong enough to be a reliable choice, especially compared to Meteor Mash or Earthquake. The other option, Flash Cannon, also requires far too much energy for you to use. You’re better off avoiding it, along with Return.

Is Metagross good in Pokémon Go?

When it comes to standard Pokémon you can find in the wild, Metagross is a fantastic choice in Pokémon Go. Although it’s not a Legendary or Mythical Pokémon, it has a variety of great stats and attacks, and it’s a robust Steel-type Pokémon. You can’t go wrong with using it, but you’ll want to use Metagross regularly in the Master League if you want to face off against other players or in PvE content, namely five-star raids, Mega Raids, or when fighting Team Rocket.
