The Drum Gun is “coming soon” to Fortnite, according to a message displayed in the in-game new updates tab. This gun is described as a “new weapon with a high capacity drum magazine and a quick rate of fire.”

Dataminers TwoEpicBuddies found files that suggested this weapon was coming to Fortnite as early as next week. They also claim that the Drum Gun will be an assault rifle and it’ll come in the Uncommon (green) and Rare (blue) rarities—although this hasn’t been confirmed by Epic Games.

It’s somewhat surprising that Epic plans to add another weapon to the game since the Dual Pistols just joined Fortnite on June 27. But with more guns available, Fortnite players simply gain additional ways to go after those Victory Royales.

The Drum Gun will likely remind players of a Tommy Gun seen in old-school mobster movies. Longtime Call of Duty fans will also recognize the Drum Gun since it looks just like the Thompson from World at War and the M1928 from the franchise’s most recent game, WWII. In the Call of Duty series, however, this weapon has traditionally been a submachine gun—so the SMGs wouldn’t be as comparable to Fortnite’s Drum Gun if TwoEpicBuddies’ prediction about it being an assault rifle is correct.

Epic usually teases that new items are “coming soon” right before its ready to add them to the game—so it’s possible that the Drum Gun could join the world of Fortnite very soon, or even as early as this week.
