A change will be coming to Fortnite matchmaking on the console versions, depending on what kind of peripherals you use to play the game.
Thanks to certain new peripherals, players who wish to use the precision of the mouse and keyboard on console can now do so. For some it’s certainly a preference thing, but many argue that it creates an unfair advantage against players using the more cumbersome default controllers.
Epic Games agrees, it seems. Soon, matchmaking on console will change to better accommodate players depending on what peripherals they’re using on their end, according to an Epic Games employee on Reddit.
“We’re actually working on some matchmaking tech, on the way, that’ll pair you against folks based on your choice of peripherals,” the Epic Games rep said on Reddit. “More info on this coming next week, but [basically] if you’re on [keyboard and mouse] you’ll be against [someone on a keyboard and mouse].”
This will obviously be a welcome change for console players on controller who are looking for a more level playing field, and it will go a long way towards making things more fair for keyboard and mouse users as well. As players can only purchase cosmetic changes to their character, Fortnite has long enjoyed the balance of the experience.
It’s unclear how the matchmaking tech will work, or how Epic can prevent someone from plugging in a controller to matchmaker before switching to a keyboard and mouse once the game begins, but it’s nice to know that the developer is listening to community concerns.
