Riot Games confirmed on June 2021 that its wildly popular tactical first-person shooter VALORANT will be coming to mobile.

VALORANT is played with five players on each team, each controlling a unique “agent” with different abilities. For example, Jett, a character based around quick movement abilities and short-duration smokes, is primarily used with the Operator sniper since she’s more likely to be able to get out of tricky gunfights. Viper, on the other hand, is primarily used as a post-plant agent because of her damaging smoke and poison cartridges.

The goal of the attackers is to plant the Spike at one of two or three sites. Once the Spike is planted, the defenders have 45 seconds to defuse it. If the Spike goes off before the defenders can defuse it, the attackers win. Round victories are also secured by eliminating all five players from the opposing team.

The game ends when a team secures 13-round wins or wins by two if both teams are on 12 rounds apiece. After 12 rounds, the sides switch and the defenders become the attackers. While this seems like a lot of rounds, the short round timer ensures that each VALORANT game is action-packed.

Mobile has become one of the most popular platforms to play games over the past years because of its accessibility. Shooters such as PUBG Mobile, Garena Free Fire, and CoD: Mobile have captivated millions of players worldwide and grossed millions in revenue. VALORANT’s foray into mobile gaming will mark the first time a tactical, economy-based shooter comes to the platform.

Riot Games is also known for shipping successful mobile versions of its stand-out games onto mobile. League of Legends: Wild Rift, a mobile version of League of Legends, is a prime example of this. The mobile title has become enormously popular around the world.

When does VALORANT launch for mobile?

At the time of this writing, there’s no release date available for VALORANT Mobile. Riot reportedly launched the beta version of VALORANT Mobile China earlier this year, and DannyINTEL, a notable leaker, shared screenshots of the game on their Twitter account.

In September, a handful of new information regarding VALORANT Mobile made its way onto social media. It included both the login screen and the lobby menu. DannyINTEL also reported on a playtest that took place for android mobile phones, suggesting that the game may be launched sooner than later.

This article will be updated when further information about VALORANT Mobile’s release date is known.
