While Paladin might be dominant on Hearthstone’s ladder right now, it’s not so in favor with the top players competing in the Hearthstone Championship Tour (HCT) playoffs this weekend.
Three of the very best ladder decks right now are Paladin decks. But it’s only the fourth most popular class in this weekend’s European playoffs.
Unsurprisingly, Warlock is the most popular class. Of the 75 players taking part, 69 are bringing the class. It’s pretty evenly split between Cube Warlock and Control Warlock, 35 to 34. The few mavericks not bringing Warlock include former HCT seasonal champion Aleksey “ShtanUdachi” Barsukov, and former world championship finalist James “Greensheep” Luo.
Beyond Warlock, Druid occupies the second spot. It’s also a pretty even split between the popular Spiteful Druid and the more niche Taunt Druid. The Cube variant is a good Warlock and Priest counter, which explains its inclusion in competitive lineups.
Mind Blast Priest is the most popular archetype in the whole tournament, with 42 of the players taking part deciding to include it. Of the players who did bring Paladin (34 in total), most of them brought Even Paladin. Odd Paladin appears to be on the outs, with just one player choosing it.
Warrior, which was in a terrible place for most of the last meta, is making something of a comeback. There are 23 players choosing it this time, with most opting for an Odd Warrior to bring back those old Justicar vibes.
At the other end of the spectrum is Shaman. There’s just one plucky player bringing a Battlecry Shaman—Saveliy “Raena” Braga of Russia.
