It took less than 10 minutes to settle the Summit 3 grand final’s deciding game.
Team Secret took the runaway victory from Evil Geniuses, thanks to hyper-aggressive play from Artour “Arteezy” Babaev and International veteran Clement “Puppey” Ivanov. The heated rivalry took little time, however as very recent game changes from developer Valve turned the final into a series of short and decisive sprints.
With the victory, Team Secret took its second tournament championship in seven days against a side whose normally sterling drafting looked listless in the face of numerous in-game changes. Drafter Gustav “S4” Magnusson quickly cut through Peter “PPD” Dager’s best laid plans with strong picks and takeover carries.
While the result will certainly satisfy Secret fans, who have waited a considerable time for the highly touted lineup to reach its potential, The Summit 3’s average game time of approximately 30 minutes flies in stark contrast to Dota 2‘s lengthy history. With patch 6.84 bringing considerable gold bonuses to supports involved in kills, teams at the tournament found their coffers overflowing quickly after early kills.
The advantage was more than enough for Secret to snowball its strengths in games three and four. Evil Geniuses plied its trademark patience as it sought solutions to the constant onslaught, but Kurtis “Aui 2000” Ling and Syed “Sumail” Hassan’s trademark heroes found little quarter in the game’s newly accelerated pace.
As the weeks progress, teams will likely adapt to Valve’s newest iteration of its traditionally slow-paced MOBA. But just one week after numerous item and pacing changes hit the servers, Secret looked far-and-away the most comfortable side in its path to the championship.
