Turtle Beach has become the official headphone sponsor of Manchester City’s esports division in a new sign of the soccer giant’s commitment to esports. Currently fielding two veteran FIFA players in Marcus “Marcuzo” Jorgensen, and Kai “Deto” Wollin, the players will now be exclusively brandishing the Elite Pro series headphone, developed by Turtle Beach. “As the leading brand in gaming audio we’re thrilled to team-up with the Premier League Champions. No matter what the game, competitive play is about total immersion, and that is what the Manchester City players can expect from our Elite Pro series,” said Juergen Stark, CEO of Turtle Beach in a press release. “Manchester City is a truly global brand and while their esports endeavors are just beginning, we’re ready to embark on the journey with them to help achieve even more success, both on the virtual pitch and off.” Manchester City acquired its first-ever esports players in 2016, with its current star player Deto is regarded as one of the best FIFA 18 players in the world. Although multiple other European soccer teams like Schalke 04 and AS Roma have invested into esports, Manchester City is perhaps the most notable example of a widely growing trend among traditional sports organizations investing into esports. In the past few years, traditional sports teams have become one of the key factors behind the steadily rising interest in esports, according to a recent survey of esports industry professionals conducted by the Esports Observer and Foley & Lardner LLP. In the survey, 68 percent of respondents believed that the involvement of traditional sports teams has helped fuel the overall growth of the esports industry. Both Marcuzo and Deto will be appearing at the FIFA World Championships on Aug. 2 to 4.
