Today marked Day 3, Week 1 of the 2016 North American League Championship Series (NA LCS) Summer Split.
From Team SoloMid continuing their rampaging start to the split, to Counter Logic Gaming failing to defend their crown, here is how Day 3, Week 1 went down.
(2-0) Apex Gaming 2-1 Counter Logic Gaming (0-2)
In a surprising turn of events, Jiwon “Ray” Jeon led Apex to a win in game one of this series with a 8/4/11 performance on Fizz in the top lane. The 56-minute game was plagued with misplays from both sides, but Apex eventually came out on top with a 6,000 gold lead helping along the way.
Game two was more of what was expected from this series, but still not quite the dominating performance that CLG was looking for. Still, a 7/0/5 performance on Lucian from Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes, though not even to earn him the game MVP award, pushed CLG to an almost 10,000 gold lead and a victory in game two.
Defying all odds, Apex defeated the defending NA LCS champions in game three to take the series. Similar to their wins yesterday, Apex’s strong bot lane play from support Alex “Xpecial” Chu and ADC Apollo “Apollo” Price led them to win this game. Apollo went 3/0/6 on Caitlyn, while Xpecial went 0/1/14 on Alistar.
(2-0) Team SoloMid 2-0 Team Liquid (0-2)
Game one of this series was pure dominance from TSM. Led by a perfect 6/0/6 performance on Ekko from Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell, TSM surmounted an 18,000 gold lead and crushed Liquid from beginning to end.
Game two was slightly closer, as Liquid made a questionable move by cutting jungler Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett’s suspension short and subbing him in for the second game. Dardoch’s impact on the team was a good one, but TSM’s rookie support Vincent “Biofrost” Wang went 2/2/14 on Bard and never gave Liquid a chance.
(1-1) Cloud9 2-1 Echo Fox (1-1)
In an abrupt game ended by one fight and one mistake from Cloud9 jungler William “Meteos” Hartman, Echo Fox defeated Cloud9 in the first game of this series. Echo Fox mid laner Henrik “Froggen” Hansen led the team with a perfect 1/0/4 performance on his signature Anivia. In just 29 minutes, Echo Fox shoved down the mid lane after winning a teamfight and easily cleared all minions and towers in their way to close the game out with a 5,000 gold lead.
Game two saw Cloud9 substitute Michael “Bunny FuFuu” Kurylo in at support, and Echo Fox swap Froggen to the top lane and Jeong-hun “kfo” Park swap to the mid lane. Cloud9 made the more efficient swap, as Bunny FuFuu went 1/1/13 on Bard enroute to an easy overall win for the team to force a game three.
In a slow and steady game three, Cloud9 closed out the series with a decisive win and flashy plays in the final push. With only two deaths as a team overall, Cloud9 assured one of the most convincing wins of this split. Meteos’ jungle control and vision, along with a 4/0/5 performance on Rek’sai, allowed Cloud9 to dominate game three and take the series.
(2-0) Immortals 2-0 Phoenix1 (0-2)
Game one was a little too close for comfort for Immortals fans, but the team flipped a switch in the final minutes of the game and absolutely destroyed Phoenix1. Just like yesterday, Immortals ADC Jason “WildTurtle” Tran won the game MVP, but this time for 11/3/4 carry performance on Ezreal.
In a commanding game two, the decisiveness and clean execution of Immortals led to a quick game win to close the series. A 0/1/6 performance on Reksai from Immortals jungler Yeu-Jin “Reignover” Kim led the team in their quick game two victory.
