Looking good in Fortnite is one of the biggest things you have to worry about before jumping into a match. With so many skins available in this massive battle royale, you might not want to pick your favorite, but instead, go for the rarest skin you’ve unlocked while playing.
Multiple rare skins have appeared in Fortnite over the years, and these were only offered for a limited time or haven’t appeared in the Shop for a very long time. If you have one of these rare skins on your account, donning them to show off in a battle royale match is always a good idea.
Here are some of the rarest skins you can own in Fortnite.
The rarest Fortnite skins in 2024
1) Aerial Assault Trooper
- Release date: Oct. 26, 2017
- Source: Season one battle pass
The Aerial Assault Trooper initially appeared during Fortnite season one. It was available for 1,200 V-bucks, and you had to reach level 15 to unlock it. Although the skin is not fancy compared to some that have come to Fortnite now, because of how few players have this skin on their account, it’s one of the rarer ones to see in the game, and we’d love to see if it could appear again sometime in the future—potentially with a reskin.
2) Renegade Raider
- Release date: Oct. 26, 2017
- Source: Season one battle pass
Another classic season one skin is the Renegade Raider. Just like the Aerial Assault Trooper, it’s not too outstanding in terms of looks, but it’s one of the first-ever battle pass skins. There have been a few reskins of the Renegade Raider in the form of Blaze and Renegade Lynx, but nothing beats the classic.
3) Black Knight
- Release date: Dec. 14, 2017
- Source: Season two battle pass
When Fortnite players think of a rare skin you could have, many immediately think of the Black Knight. The Black Knight was a character that appeared during season two of Fortnite and was a level 70 reward on the season’s battle pass.
There have been several iterations of this skin, such as a unique twist on the outfit for Fortnite‘s OG Season, but nothing that matches the eerie black and silver armor suit with glowing red eyes. Outside of participating in season two of Fortnite and unlocking the skin, it has not appeared in the game since.
4) Blue Team Leader
- Release date: Feb. 14, 2018
- Source: PlayStation special offer
For Fortnite players playing on PlayStation, the Blue Team Leader skin was another opportunity to grab an exclusive item. The Blue Team Leader skin appeared when Epic Games promoted Fortnite on PlayStation, and it was available to PlayStation Plus subscribers who had access to the game.
It was called the PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack, and you could grab it on the PlayStation store. However, that promotion has since been pulled, and the Blue Team Leader skin has not been openly available since February 2018.
5) The Reaper
- Release date: Feb. 22, 2018
- Source: Season three battle pass
The Reaper is one of the best and most iconic Fortnite skins released in season three. Many players refer to this character as the original John Wick skin because it looks eerily similar to the character played by Keanu Reaves.
However, it’s important to note that this skin isn’t a part of the actual collaboration between John Wick and Fortnite released in season nine to promote John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Unlike collaboration skins, The Reaper was featured in a battle pass and will never be available ever again.
6) Havoc and Sub Commander
- Release date: Feb. 28, 2018
- Source: Twitch Prime pack
The Havoc skin was the first Fortnite Twitch Prime pack you could claim for a limited time on Twitch if you had a Prime subscription. It’s a simple yet fun skin with a back bling that carries an angry red bomb. The same Twitch Prime promotion also included the Sub Commander outfit, which may not be as good-looking but is equally rare.
7) Omega
- Release date: May 1, 2018
- Source: Season four battle pass
Season four introduced modular skins to Fortnite that have multiple styles and colors. Omega was a level 100 reward from the season four battle pass with five upgrade stages and four light colors, including red, green, purple, and yellow.
Omega is such a classic skin that it’s been featured in Fortnite collaborations with other games, like Destiny 2, where you can buy a Hunter class armor set themed around this skin.
8) The Visitor
- Release date: May 1, 2018
- Source: Season four battle pass
The Visitor was also a part of the season four battle pass and was the first-ever secret skin you could unlock throughout the season. The Visitor is the first character from The Seven—a mysterious group of individuals who drove Fortnite‘s storyline during the earlier Chapters.
Other members of The Seven were introduced to the game in the following seasons, including The Scientist and The Paradigm during season X, The Foundation during Chapter Three, and others.
9) Drift
- Release date: July 11, 2018
- Source: Season five battle pass
Season five battle pass featured one of the most beloved battle pass outfits—Drift. This urban outfit has multiple styles that suit almost any player, ranging from a simple street jacket to a coat pulsing with pink lightning.
Since then, there have been multiple reskins of the Drift outfit. There’s a tactical Rift Strider Drift, Fishdrift, menacing Skulldrifter, and a zombie Driftwalker, but none of them look nearly as good as the original Drift.
10) Galaxy
- Release date: Aug. 10, 2018
- Source: Samsung special offer
A partnership between Samsung and Epic Games for Fortnite brought about the Galaxy skin, a character that looks like they were dropped directly from space. Fortnite players had a chance to unlock this skin if they played at least three games while using their Note 9 and Tab 4 tablets, and if you did not have those devices and never played the game, you couldn’t unlock the Galaxy skin. The Galaxy is exceptionally rare because of the time constraints on the promotional event and the devices required to unlock it.
11) Eon
- Release date: Sept. 27, 2018
- Source: Xbox special offer
The Eon skin was initially released during Fortnite‘s season six in partnership with Epic Games and Microsoft. This and other Xbox promotions featuring exclusive skins have been discontinued, making this outfit incredibly rare.
12) Honor Guard
- Release date: Dec. 6, 2018
- Source: Honor special offer
In a promotion between Epic Games and Honor, the Honor Guard skin is one of the rarer and more expensive skins you can find in Fortnite. If you wanted this skin, you had to buy the Honor View 20, a phone that cost $650 in January 2019 when it was released, and the Honor Guard skin became available in February 2019 for anyone who grabbed the promotional code.
Outside of this promotion, the Honor Guard skin has not appeared in Fortnite, making it an exceptionally rare skin and one of the odder promotions Epic Games has done for Fortnite players. What made this skin even more rare was that the promotion was not worldwide.
13) Reflex
- Release date: Nov. 29, 2018
- Source: Shop
The Reflex skin was created during Fortnite‘s season seven, and you could grab it from the item shop for 1,200 V-Bucks in the Counterattack set. However, another way to unlock it was by submitting a code from the GeForce Fortnite Bundle, which was available back in 2019.
The Reflex outfit has only appeared in the Item Shop twice and was last seen in March 2019. Unless you have a promotional code for the GeForce Fortnite Bundle, we don’t know another way to unlock this rare skin.
14) Ikonik
- Release date: March 8, 2019
- Source: Samsung special offer
Released in 2019, Ikonik was a limited-time offer in another collaboration with Samsung, promoting the Samsung Galaxy S10 phone. If you bought one of these phones, you’d get the Ikonik skin for free. This K-pop-inspired skin also came with an emote that many players love.
15) World Warrior
- Release date: July 26, 2019
- Source: Shop
The World Warrior skin appeared during Fortnite‘s season nine and was available in the item shop for 800 V-Bucks. It was one of the items you could unlock for the World Cup 2019 set. It appeared four times in the item shop but only occurred in July 2019. Because the World Warrior skin appeared briefly during this time, it’s a relatively rare skin that only a handful of players had who might have grabbed it before it disappeared.
16) Golden Agent Peely
- Release date: Feb. 20, 2020
- Source: Chapter Two, season two battle pass
For those who wanted to push themselves during Fortnite Chapter Two: Season Two, there’s the Golden Agent Peely skin. The skin was available in the battle pass, but you had to reach level 300 to unlock it, requiring a lot of time and patience. It’s an exceptionally rare skin because of the amount of time you would have had to dedicate to unlock it, despite how long Fortnite seasons usually go.
17) Astro Jack and Travis Scott
- Release date: April 22, 2020
- Source: Shop
As a part of the collaboration with Travis Scott, Fortnite released the Astroworld collection featuring Travis Scott and the Astro Jack outfits. The Astro Jack is an outfit of a spaceman in a colorful jacket and style that replaces his head with Earth’s globe.
Both of these skins have only been available in the Shop for one week during the collaboration and haven’t been seen ever since. The last time the skin was in the Shop was on April 27, 2020, and it’s unlikely it’ll ever come back.
18) Psycho Bandit
- Release date: Aug. 27, 2019
- Source: Shop
To promote Borderlands 3, the Psycho Bandit made its way onto the island as a part of the Mayhem bundle. It was available in the Shop a few times, or you could’ve unlocked the outfit by purchasing Borderlands 3 in the Epic Game Store.
It’s a rare skin, but the best part of the set isn’t the Psycho Bandit himself, but the Claptrap back bling. Claptrap acts like a pet that talks, dances, dabs, and salutes depending on your actions during the game.
19) Kratos
- Release date: Dec. 4, 2020
- Source: Shop
One of the most iconic Gaming Legends Series outfits, Kratos from God of War, was released in December 2020 and last seen in March 2021. God of War is one of the most classic series Fortnite launched collaborations with alongside Street Fighter and Halo, but what’s worse is there were multiple leaks hinting at Kratos’s return to the Shop that never proved to be true.
20) Sofia
- Release date: June 28, 2019
- Source: Shop
Collaboration to promote John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum introduced the Boogeyman and his old friend Sofia, portrayed by Halle Berry in the movie. While John Wick and his bundle returned multiple times to the Shop since the release, Sofia was nowhere to be seen, and it’s unclear if we’ll ever see her again.
