OpTic Gaming are the Gears of War 4 MLG Launch Invitational champions after taking the Grand Finals series 2-0 against Team EnVyUs. The match was preceded by an interview with Gilbert “Xplosive” Rojo of OpTic and Brian “Solurs” Valenzuela of EnVyUs, the player that without word or warning failed to attend ESL Pro League Season 2, which cost the core unit that now makes up OpTic Gaming their second consecutive LAN victory.
“My team is a lot better now than when we played with him, (Solurs) so I’d like to thank him for that” -Xplosive
When asked about whether or not he believed his Team EnVyUs squad could take down the titan that is OpTic Gaming, Solurs responded with what can only be considered a lack of confidence: “I don’t know, we’ll see.”
OpTic Gaming would come out swinging immediately to show us why there was such a difference in the two teams’ confidence levels by taking a 4-0 round lead on the first map, Foundation. EnVyUs would achieve a triple cap to take round five, but OpTic would quickly retaliate in kind with their own triple cap, bringing the score to 5-1. OpTic would again take the next round two rounds, ending the first map with a 7-1 victory.
On the second map, Reclaimed, OpTic would yet again get off to a hot start with a 4-0 round advantage over EnVyUs, two of which came by way of triple cap dominations. The two teams would then trade rounds the following three rounds, all resulting from dominations, to bring the score to 5-2 in favor of OpTic. The GreenWall would then take the final two rounds and win the tournament.
Though there were some upsets, OpTic yet again proved why they’re the team to beat in Gears esports. Another LAN, another title, OpTic will look to continue this momentum into next month when they will be competing in the MLG Gears of War 4 Columbus Open, where they will contend for their share of a $250,000 prize pool.
